Job Title:POLICE PATROL AIDE

Shift Schedule:Must be able to work an average of 20 hours a week yearround. Shiftworkincluding evening/midnight hours weekends and holidays is required. Workschedules are subject to change based on organizational need. Every effortwill be made to provide notice when possible. Flexibility to work a variety of shifts including nights weekends holidays and overtime.

JOB SUMMARY:This position provides valuable services to the Norfolk Airport Authority Police Department in a nonenforcement role. Primarily responsible to assist patrons security and the police with various functions. Requires excellent communications skills (both verbal and written) and the ability to work as a team with all NAA departments airlines and tenants to enhance the overall security of the airport.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:The following duties are typical for this position. Incumbents may not perform all the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

  1. Assisting with traffic and pedestrian direction within and around NAA facilities.
  2. Assists at crash scenes by directing traffic and helping safely secure the scenes; assists citizens with disabled vehicles; assisting with parking enforcement; processing abandoned vehicles and found property with no investigative value.
  3. When assigned responds to and assists with the completion of nonpolice reports such as slips trips or fall.
  4. Assists with monitoring the security camera system for investigative purposes and to proactively identify activity or behavior which necessitates police response crowd monitoring observing calls for service to provide additional information to responding units etc.
  5. Assists with community engagement and other activities.
  6. Assists with administrative tasks at police facilities such as answering telephones processing paperwork and conducting checks of department records.
  7. Answers questions and assist patrons tenants and airline partners as needed.
  8. Maintains and cares for all assigned equipment.
  9. Attend training sessions briefings and presentations from police department and NAA Management.
  10. Adheres to all onthejob training company policies and procedures as provided.
  11. Liaisons with Authority departments airlines security contractor staff and tenant partners.
  12. Conduct routine inspections of terminal to identify hazards; reports same via the chain of command.
  13. Provides daily reports of incidents and inconsistencies of airport security to Police Leadership.
  14. Understands and complies with Employee Policy requirements and policy guidelines.
  15. Performs all other duties as assigned and directed.
  16. Adhere to all Authority personnel policies and departmental guidelines.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:The following generally describes the knowledge skills and abilities required to enter the job and/or be learned within a short period of time to successfully perform the assigned duties.

  1. Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  2. Proficient in using email text messaging telephones and various radios as a critical form of communication.
  3. Ability to listen and identify/resolve issues.
  4. Thorough understanding of customer service and standards.
  5. Ability and willingness to work alone and on weekends and holidays.
  6. Must be openminded and ready to work as part of a detailoriented team.
  7. Strong work ethic character and integrity.
  8. Ability to utilize computers and other technology items as tools in daily course of business.
  9. Must be flexible to learn new skills and tasks to assist others as assigned while demonstrating the ability to maintain effective work relationships with coworkers leadership team and other airport personnel tenants and suppliers.
  10. Ability to transmit receive and communicate information and instructions verbally and/or via radio equipment telephone and face to face.
  11. Thorough knowledge of TSA and FAA regulations pertaining to Security preferred.

EDUCATION/TRAINING:

  1. High school graduate or equivalent.

EXPERIENCE:

  1. Law enforcement/aviation experience preferred.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Possess a valid drivers license and must meet NAA driving record requirements.
  2. Ability to obtain and maintain eligibility to hold a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge as may be required by assigned job duties and responsibilities.

EQUIPMENT OPERATION: Be familiar with Microsoft applications for report writing.

All sworn personnel must demonstrate their ability to perform these essential functions during their annual physical examinations. Employees must be able to adjust to a varied work schedule. Employees must be able to clearly transmit and receive any and all communications via radio telephone and face to face.

WORKING CONDITIONS/HAZARDS:Exposure to moderate noise inside and outside of the facility.

DRIVING RECORD REQUIREMENTS: All drivers must be at least 21years of age licensed for at least 3years have the type of license required by their state for the vehicles operated and meet the following driving record standards.

Committing a Felony with a Motor Vehicle

DWI/DUI

Drug Offense

Eluding a Police Officer

Foreign citizens with no historical driving record available to us

Hit Run / Leaving the Scene of an accident

Lending an Operators License or Registration to Another

Open Container Violation

Passing a Stopped School Bus

Racing or Speed Contest Violation

Reckless Driving

Speeding 25 mph or more above speed limit

Suspended License History Drivers who have had 3 or more license suspensions as a result of moving violations

Temporary Operators Permit

Two or more at fault accident convictions

Vehicle Manslaughter/Homicide

Three or more moving violations within the past 12 months

Note: Texting or cell phone violations are considered moving violations because they increase the chance of being in an accident.
