Jenks Public Schools Job Description

Position: Speech and Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA)

Reports to: Site Principal Supervision of SLP SPED Coordinator

Supervises: None

Qualifications:

  1. High School diploma or GED required.
  2. Hold a minimum of an associates degree or provide equivalent academic coursework and clinical training hours for an SLPA and be licensed by OBESPA.
  3. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  4. Satisfy all district requirements with regard to physical health and citizenship.
  5. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Position Goal: Support excellence in student learning by functioning as a member of the Special Education Team in the school setting.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  1. Conducts speech and language screenings without interpretation and using screening protocols developed by the supervising Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP).
  2. Implements therapeutic activities directly to students for remediation of communication disorders under the supervision of the SLP.
  3. Follows and implements documented IEP plans or protocols.
  4. Documents student progress toward meeting established objectives and reports the information to the SLP.
  5. Assists the SLP during assessments assisting with formal documentation preparing materials and performing clerical duties.
  6. Prepares therapy materials and/or equipment for use in the classroom and therapy activities.
  7. Adapts or modifies instructional materials and/or equipment as determined by student needs and abilities for teacher use in the classroom.
  8. Assists in maintaining student records tallying data preparing charts records graphs and reports.
  9. Assists in organizing classroom activities such as displaying educational materials arranging furniture to facilitate instructional requirements and creating an orderly and clean learning environment.
  10. Works well with both supervisors and other members of the team.
  11. Maintains consistent and punctual attendance.
  12. Performs other duties assigned by supervisor or administrator.

Employment Terms: Nine 9 month classified hourly contract

FLSA Qualification: NonExempt

Physical Demands:

Regular Requirements: Stand for extended periods; sit for extended periods; twist at the neck and trunk; bend at the waist; stoop kneel crouch; lift/move up to 20 pounds; handle objects and tools with hands; repetitive use of fingers and hands.

Occasional Requirements: Reach with hands and arms overhead above shoulder and horizontally; lift/move up to 40 pounds.

Visual Requirements: Close color peripheral depth perception ability to adjust focus.

Hearing/Speaking Requirements: Adequate to exchange information.
