Job Description Summary

This position performs a variety of technical support functions for the Manufacturing Construction and Agriculture Division with expertise in automation electronics and electricity.

Work Schedule:

Monday Friday 8:00am 4:30pm

Job Description

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

The following duties are primarily performed and are essential for this position. Employees are expected to be able to perform each of these job duties satisfactorily to be qualified for the position. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Maintenance Repair and Installation

  • Perform periodic maintenance on a wide variety of division equipment according to documented procedures and maintain associated records in maintenance software.
  • Troubleshoot and make repairs to a wide variety of industrial and laboratory equipment utilizing electronic electrical mechanical pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  • Evaluate equipment and make recommendations as to repair or replacement.
  • Maintains records of annual Safety Inspections on program related equipment and college related equipment according to industry college or governmental standards.
  • Assist with receiving installing and preparing new equipment and removing replaced equipment in conjunction with the FVTC Manager Manufacturing Agriculture & Construction FVTC maintenance personnel and outside contractors.
  • Maintain SDS records in online database and organize hazardous materials.

Organization and Division Projects

  • Design modify and build instructional laboratory equipment. Install and maintain electrical industrial panels motor drives (DC & AC) and programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
  • Organize and execute projects from conception through completion in a professional manner using layout tools prints and fabrication techniques for division and external clients.
  • Utilize 3D printers to design and fabricate custom components for instructional use equipment modifications and prototyping.
  • Support Manufacturing Agriculture and Construction Technologies Division in the development of systems involved with new initiatives.
  • Support other Manufacturing Construction and Agriculture Division technical personnel.
  • Lead and actively collaborate with division staff on initiatives for improvements related to organization setup standardization and processes.

Procurement

  • Monitor inventories of consumables supplies and equipment as needed within the division purchase and reconcile purchase transactions.
  • Communicate with Vendor Managed Inventory staff to insure proper stocking of supplies and deliveries.
  • Interact with outside vendors and assist in collecting data/materials for price quotes.
  • Move equipment utilizing necessary rigging equipment.
  • Receive and unload materials and supplies utilizing lift truck.

NonEssential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Operate school owned vehicles.
  • Ensure a safe comfortable and functional environment for students and staff by scheduling work with the Facilities Department to correct electrical heating ventilating air conditioning and plumbing problems as they arise.
  • Set up and take down furnishings and equipment for functions/meetings per customer requests.
  • Practice and promote safe working habits to staff and students including the utilization of automation safety equipment such as light curtains switches and scanners.
  • Perform building security functions for the college including opening and securing buildings labs shops and offices.
  • Assist students and staff in a lab environment in a noninstructional capacity.
  • Assists with career days open house tours youth camps and other College marketing efforts.
  • Functional supervision of student workers.
  • Accept responsibility for continuous learning related to industry advancements and professional development.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and/or Experience Requirements:

  • Associates Degree in Automation Electrical Controls or related field preferred or
  • Completed apprenticeship in a related field AND
  • Two years of recent related work experience in automation industrial commercial or residential electrical work

Licenses Certifications and Other Requirements:

Training will be provided for the following certifications it not already held.

  • Valid Wisconsin drivers license required CDL preferred. Note: If a CDL is not held it may be provided during employment.
  • OSHA Tow motor/Forklift certification
  • OSHA 30 certification
  • Electrical hazard training
  • Fall protection training
  • NFPA 70e arc flash protection

Work Environment

  • Work must be completed in person.

Work environment may changed based upon college needs.

Physical Requirements

  • Lifting and Carrying: Ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 lbs for purposes of repair setup installation relocation or handling equipment and materials.
  • Manual Dexterity and HandEye Coordination: Frequent use of hand tools and machinery with a high degree of precision.
  • Mobility and Physical Endurance: Ability to stand walk bend crouch kneel or squat for extended periods of time.
  • Climbing: Ability to climb ladders scaffolding or steps to access equipment and workspaces at heights of up to 20 feet.
  • Reaching and Twisting: Frequent reaching twisting and stretching to access parts of equipment or materials.
  • Standing and Walking: Frequent periods of standing and walking in various work environments.
  • Vision: Ability to clearly read gauges blueprints and schematic drawings as well as inspect equipment.
  • Hearing: Ability to hear operational sounds alarms and communications in a busy work environment.
  • Environmental Exposure: Ability to work in hot or cold temperatures dust debris fumes and noise.
  • Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Required to wear proper PPE including safety glasses gloves hearing protection and steeltoed boots.
  • Driving and Travel: Ability to operate schoolowned vehicles for workrelated purposes.
  • Physical Endurance: Ability to sustain physical effort for extended periods of time.

Additional Information

Pay Rate: $27.47 per hour.

Pay is based on a multitude of factors including experience qualifications education relevant certifications internal equity and market data. Note: Internal applicants wage will be based upon the applicable compensation guidelines.
