BASIC FUNCTION:
The Environmental/Chemical Health Officer (ECHO) for the Kravis Department of Integrated Sciences (KDIS) will be responsible for developing and implementing policies and procedures for laboratory safety to ensure a safe and healthy workplace as well as compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. The ECHO will monitor potential chemical biological and occupational hazards and recommend corrective action as needed in both research and teaching laboratories and more broadly for the College when needed. The ECHO will report to the Director of Program Development for KDIS.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS & SKILLS:
EDUCATION: Bachelors degree in a scientific discipline (or equivalent experience) or a Masters degree in a scientific field occupational health and safety or a related field.
EXPERIENCE: Bachelors degree and five or more years experience in environmental health and safety (preferably labspecific) or a Masters degree and two or more years of experience. Familiarity with hazardous materials management and disposal procedures. Experience developing and implementing programs policies and procedures for hazardous materials management chemical safety and biosafety preferred. Possess a relevant certification such as CHMM (Certified Hazardous Materials Manager) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred.
LICENSES: A valid drivers license or equivalent alternate form of transportation to offsite meetings and events is required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS and ABILITIES:
REQUIRED HOURS: The regular hours for this fulltime position are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Regular hours may vary due to the needs of the College. Holiday weekend and evening work hours may be required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to stand walk bend climb push pull stoop twist stretch squat reach and lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to above shoulder level without assistance. Must be able to work on feet for prolonged periods of time. Must take and successfully pass a functional capacity test after job offer and prior to hire.
