Job Description

Job Title:

Reading Specialist

Contract Length:

10 months

Reports To:

Principal

Supervises:

Primary Role:

The ideal candidate will support supplement and extend classroom teaching. The Reading Specialist is expected to work collaboratively with teachers to implement a quality reading program that is research and databased.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in English
  • North Carolina Teaching Certificate
  • Minimum of six years teaching experience in elementary school

Skills Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintains appropriate records and follows required procedures and practices
  • Create plan and teach a rigorous curriculum while meeting the needs of a diverse student population
  • Provide small groups of staff development as needed
  • Assist teachers in planning an appropriate individual intervention program
  • Model reading instruction in classrooms
  • Assist teachers in assessing students for appropriate instruction
  • Effectively and consistently communicates and interacts with students parents staff and community.
  • Develops selects and differentiates instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students.
