Position: Information Specialist

Responsible to: Director of Research & Evaluation

Location: 2day hybrid in Washington DC office

Status: Full time exempt Hybrid Schedule (inperson/remote)

Departmental Role: The Information Specialist will be responsible for the following:

Position Summary:

The Girls Inc. Information Specialist serves as the main point of contact between the Research & Evaluation (R&E) Department and the wider Girls Inc. Network curating R&E data to fulfill the needs of National and Affiliate staff. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of social science research methods excellent oral and written communication skills demonstrated efficacy in project management and a passion for helping nontechnical audiences understand and use data to improve their work.


Responsibilities:


Support preparation for and administration of two large annual surveys

  • Update survey tools to incorporate yearoveryear modifications
  • Develop and update resource guides and other collateral
  • Coordinate communications across multiple organizational channels (e.g. newsletters website social media promotional flyers/brochures)
  • Schedule and delivering training sessions
  • Monitor Affiliate completion of required trainings
  • Distribute survey links and monitor Affiliate progress
  • Provide ongoing support throughout the survey administration periods

Lead dissemination of data collected by the R&E Department

  • Update reports and other standard collateral
  • Develop schedule and deliver learning opportunities for diverse audiences in varied venues (e.g. group learning sessions peer learning forums conference presentations)
  • Coordinate communication of results across multiple organizational channels
  • Integrate content into existing specialized rolespecific Affiliate venues (e.g. quarterly calls with Affiliate Executives onboarding for new Program Leaders)
  • Integrate content into existing National venues (e.g. allstaff meetings Departmentspecific meetings)

Collaborate with other National Departments to fulfill and anticipate their data needs

  • Populate and maintain R&E files on National Drive and lead migration of content to new platform when needed
  • Update and continue to refine Departmentspecific collateral in collaboration with the applicable Department
  • Identify emerging data needs and develop new products to meet those needs (e.g. infographics dashboards)
  • Develop and execute plan to engage National staff in data dialogs leveraging the Research chat channel created to share breaking data news among National staff and collaborate on quickturnaround data requests

Support Affiliates in understanding and using data to inform their work including

  • Monitor our R&E ticket system to respond to data requests
  • Maintain content on our Strong Smart & Bold Outcomes Measurement website and lead migration of content to new platforms when needed
  • Monitor uptake of R&E resources/offerings to foster greater engagement
  • Expand and implement a Data Leadership learning pathway to onboard support and grow Affiliate staff who have been designated as the required Data Lead for their Affiliate in collaboration with the Learning & Leadership Development Department
  • Maintain entries in Affiliate Engagement App in collaboration with the Affiliate Services Department
  • Plan and facilitate monthly Data Leader Roundtable meetings highlighting Affiliate successes and lessons learned
  • Facilitate Affiliateled communities of practice to allow affiliates with similar characteristics or needs to connect learn and share
  • Develop new data products/resources based on expressed Affiliate needs

Support overall operations of the Girls Inc. Research & Evaluation Department

  • Maintain R&E master work plan in collaboration with the Director of R&E
  • Maintain R&E scheduling for organizationwide calendars (e.g. Network Calendar Affiliate Communications Calendar)
  • Schedule R&E meetings trainings and communications in coordination with other National Departments
  • Identify emerging staff data needs and potential ways to meet them
  • Coordinate professional development opportunities for the R&E Team Coordinate R&E engagement in timelimited crossDepartmental initiatives (e.g. DEI Alliance planning committee for Girls Inc. annual conference)
  • Lead identification and procurement of analytic and visualization software for the R&E Department in coordination with the IT Department
  • Identify and update benchmark data points from relevant external datasets such as the Youth Risk Behavior Survey
  • Other duties as assigned including copying mailing scheduling and other administrative tasks
Requirements


Qualifications:

  • A commitment to the mission of Girls Inc.
  • Bachelors degree in social sciences with at least two years of work experience; or Masters degree in social sciences or closely related field
  • Strong understanding of social science research methods
  • Proficiency in basic quantitative analysis (i.e. descriptive statistics) and some experience in qualitative analysis
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills with an ability to translate technical language to diverse nontechnical audiences
  • Strong project management skills with PM training/certification preferred
  • Experience creating and delivering training and professional development opportunities for practitioners
  • High degree of computer proficiency including comfort in Microsoft suite and varied data visualization tools
  • Excellent critical thinking analytic and problemsolving skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and autonomously
  • Flexibility and adaptability to shifting needs and priorities
  • A commitment to lifelong learning and professional growth
  • A passion for helping people understand and use data!
