Job Description
The Communications Department at Syracuse Universitys S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications invites applications for a fulltime tenuretrack faculty position in the area of communications law beginning in fall 2024. Candidates with experience in the practice of communications law are encouraged to apply. Successful candidates will demonstrate an interest in working with a diverse group of students from the undergraduate to the doctoral level. Successful candidates should expect a variety of service duties including academic and career advising of undergraduate and graduate students; department school and university committee service; and service to the field.
Responsibilities
The faculty member will teach five courses in an academic year. At the undergraduate level we regularly offer specific courses on communications law for journalism students; for public relations and advertising students; and for students in the television radio and film industries. At the graduate level we regularly offer courses on media law for our professionally oriented masters students. The ideal candidate should feel comfortable teaching any of these classes. In addition opportunities may be available for the successful candidates to teach in areas consistent with their experiences. The faculty member will be expected to engage in scholarship and/or appropriate professional writing that brings national and/or global visibility to the school such that they become recognized as experts in the field. The faculty member will engage in a variety of service duties including academic and career advising of undergraduate and graduate students; department school and university committee service; and service to the field.
Qualifications
A Ph.D. or J.D. is required. Strong ABDs will be considered.
