Job Description

Title: Assistant Manager Food Service

Department: Hospitality

Duration:Indefinite

Employment Status: NonExempt FullTime 40 hours/week

Job Summary

Reporting to the Associate Director Hospitality the Assistant Manager Food Service supports the daily operations of the food service department ensuring highquality service and adherence to safety and cleanliness standards. The Assistant Manager assists with staff supervision inventory management and scheduling while maintaining excellent customer service. The Assistant Manager requires collaboration with the management team to optimize food service delivery and address any issues that arise during shifts. Additionally the Assistant Manager ensures compliance with health regulations and supports team training and development.


Job Duties

  • 35 Supervise daily employee performance offering coaching written evaluations and constructive feedback. Ensure staff are clear on job expectations and promptly address any performance concerns. Conduct interviews hire train mentor and provide guidance to employees while managing work schedules and coordinating unitspecific training. (Essential)
  • 20 Place orders and schedule deliveries for snacks and beverages with approved suppliers. Ensure proper rotation stocking of products and inventory monitoring. Adjust pricing as necessary. (Essential)
  • 10 Update the POS system and menu boards daily ensuring accuracy. Assist with cashier and frontofhouse duties during peak periods or employee breaks. (Essential)
  • 5 Order and manage inventory of plateware glasses silverware and togo packaging to ensure a steady supply for guest service. (Essential)
  • 5 Serve as the lead for emergency safety procedures and first aid representing Hospitality Services in college committees and ensuring safety compliance. (Essential)
  • 5 Perform other related duties as assigned. (Essential)


Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three years of experience in food service or hospitality service.
  • Two years of experience in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word Excel PowerPoint) Googledrives/folders/forms Adobe Acrobat Web Editing and social media applications or anycombination of productivity programs applicable to position responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to be detailoriented and thorough; skilled at anticipating and preventingpotential problems and handling a wide variety of tasks with efficiency and accuracy.
  • Strong commitment to a quality work product.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate verbally in writing and electronically.
  • Effective interpersonal skills as evidenced in the ability to collaborate with a variety of constituencies.
  • Demonstrated commitment to justice equity inclusion & diversity.
  • Demonstrated skill in adapting to and performing work effectively in highvolume highaccountability confidential environment with multiple and changing priorities.
  • Effective organizational logistical time management and planning skills with the ability to manage and
    prioritize multiple tasks/projects simultaneously prioritize and fulfill the functions of an office in a
    timely manner.
  • Ability to selfmotivate and work independently.
  • Ability to provide effective leadership and training and to work effectively and professionally
    across functions disciplines levels and with diverse groups.
  • Knowledge of contemporary leadership and management methods to ensure employee successand achievement and demonstration of related and applicable skills as evidenced by the abilityto effectively direct assess and evaluate performance of direct reports.
  • Ability to effectively design define describe and document job functions responsibilities tasksand required qualifications associated with supervised positions and the demonstrated skills inassessing candidates experience knowledge skills and abilities when hiring for vacantpositions ensuring the best choice of candidate.
  • Ability to provide employee development training and opportunities for direct reports to demonstrate performance achievement and success recognizing performance of both above standards and needs improvement and respond accordingly. Skilled at communicating feedback verbally in writing and electronically; and documenting performance via introductory and annual performance appraisals.
  • Skilled in developing and determining corrective employment/performance/behavioral strategies as needed.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and execute performance improvement plans conducting disciplinary action and/or determining the appropriateness of employment continuation.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in food safety or other relevant industry certifications.
  • Experience in managing a team in a highvolume food service environment.
  • Experience in training coaching and performance management of employees


EXPECTED HIRING RANGE: $26.45/hr

If you are offered this position at Occidental College your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as skills education experience and/or geographic location. In addition to those factors Occidental complies with applicable pay equity laws and considers internal equity among current employees when developing the final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the base salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future and continued salary growth. We also offer a generous compensation and benefits package.
