Job Description
Summary/Objective
The LearningtoWork program will be implemented at Young Adult Borough Centers where students are taking regular academic classes in the evening or are enrolled in evening GED classes and at transfer schools where students are attending daytime classes.
The Employability Skills Development and Career Exploration component of the LearningtoWork program will consist of ongoing seminars and indepth workshops. These activities will include the following:
The Supported Internship Experience will provide students with an opportunity to build work place skills and enhance career exploration through workbased learning. All student participants must participate in training prior to and during placement to maximize the students capacity to use the internship as a learning experience and to see it as a step in a career ladder leading to further education training and employment. To the degree possible and appropriate placement sites should align to the students postsecondary interests and aspirations. The program will provide subsidized internships at sites in the public private and nonprofit sectors.
Job Development will be undertaken to assist students who successfully complete the internship experiences and any student who has successfully completed the academic program in which he/she is enrolled. Job placement will take place ongoing through the year including summer.
Programmatic and Student Support Services include services such as student recruitment intake attendance support information and referral individual and group counseling enrichment and engagement activities college and career exploration and postsecondary planning. The intake process should gather information from students on their goals needs interests and personal histories and records. Additionally providers will be responsible for working with students and their families to address issues that hinder academic personal and career development and provide appropriate referrals.
