Job Role Summary
The GIS Technology Specialist provides guidance and assistance in the effective use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology promotes effective and efficient work flows using the appropriate technology and facilitates the delivery of technology to the GIS community. GIS Technology Specialists are expected to build general business understanding which enhances their ability to help business partners gain insights from their data. Individuals in this job role work closely with the GIS community the broader EMIT organization and vendors on the direction and commercialization of new technology.
Job Role Responsibilities
- Understand Upstream business process best practices and standards.
- Promote effective and efficient workflows using the appropriate technology.
- Develop and maintain a working relationship with business and EMIT partners.
- Problem solving and consultation with the business regarding the functionality of applications supporting this business process area.
- Maintain knowledge of industry and technology trends impacting this business process area.
- Maintain knowledge of vendor products deployed to support this business process area and vendor roadmaps for those products.
- Work with IT service providers to maintain the integrity of technology supporting this business process area.
- Contribute to enhancements of the technology supporting this business process area.
- Work with business partners to understand new or changing business requirements and business capabilities
- Advise business on new IT solutions to meet business process requirements.
- Contribute to projects introducing new solutions to support this business process area.
- Manage vendor relationships and participate in application licensing arrangements.
- Develop and deliver formal and informal technical training for the GIS community
