Job Description

Introduction

Anticipated openings for theSchool Year.

The Maryland Schoolfor the Deaf (MSD) is a diverse bilingual community who in partnership withfamilies provides an equitable and exemplary education in a nurturingengaging and challenging environment to ensure our students achieve personalexcellence and become lifelong learners.

We are currently acceptingapplications to create a pool of qualified individuals who can work on an asneeded basis to temporarily assist in the classrooms on any given day.

Main Purpose of Job

Substitute teacher aides are responsible for the implementation of student instructional programs and daily schedules as directed by the teacher. Candidates must comply with and support MSDs regulations and policies. Substitute teacher aides need to be available on an oncall basis.

POSITION DUTIES

Candidates mustaccommodate and follow each behavior support plan for individual studentsincluding daily selfcare assist with the arrival and dismissal of studentsand supervise students during off campus instruction.

Candidates mustprovide a safe environment for students at all times.

Candidates mustmaintain strict confidentiality of students and school personnel informationexceptional organizational skills effective classroom management strongwritten communication and experience working with a diverse studentpopulation including underserved students.

The above mentionedstatements describe the general purpose and responsibilities assigned to thejob and are not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities duties and skillsthat may be required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma or GED required. Fluency in ASL and writtenEnglish required. Knowledge of students with additional disabilities andability to teach students on different levels and with varying educationalbackground required.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of Deaf Community preferred.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

New hires are subjectto a criminal background investigation at their own expense. (MarylandCode Family Law Article 1 Sections

Candidates will need toprovide three letters of recommendation.

SELECTION PROCESS

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee you will be responsible for paying 25 of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75 of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage accidental death and dismemberment insurance and life insurance but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
