Job Description

Performs administrative support work planning organizing and executing a variety of recreational and community programs and activities in one or more areas including but not limited to LCAC Operations Ceramics/Pottery Marketing Programs and Special Events. Additionally this position assists with the daily operations and services of the Leland Cultural Arts Center (LCAC) operating the main office receiving and responding to inquiries about the departments programs and events aiding participants instructors and staff and all other related work as apparent and assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Recreation Supervisor. This position will generally work 1015 hours per week and may have a variety of hours that include evenings and weekends.

Essential Job Functions

  • Greets visitors; receives and responds to public inquiries about the facility programing and events; provides tours of the facility.
  • Conducts a variety of arts educational and recreational programs and events in both indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Registers participants for programs; assists instructors with class lists timesheets supplies and other records or documents.
  • Monitors program event and rental ensuring activities are running smoothly; Receives and responds to questions and concerns related to programs events and rentals.
  • Provides excellent customer service in the of programs projects and special events.
  • Stages programs and events in a manner that reduces risks and ensures participant
  • safety.
  • Performs general office tasks as necessary; collects and prepares data related to programs and events such as attendance reports and evaluations.
  • Assists the Recreation Supervisors and Recreation Manager with developing and coordinating gallery programs special events facility rentals and volunteer programs.
  • Assists with set up and break down of rooms activities and programs; ensures cleanliness of the facility by performing basic cleaning services.
  • Monitors the facility and enforces the rules and guidelines.
  • Serves as a Town of Leland representative in the community; promotes events activities and programs; encourages the use of facilities and parks.
  • Regularly demonstrates the Towns core values of respect engagement supportive work environment communication and service excellence.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
  • Minimal work experience required
  • Some experience in recreation or arts programming working with the public and/or in an office environment preferred. Possession of an appropriate drivers license valid in the State of North Carolina.
  • Ability to obtain first aid and CPR certifications within six months of hire.
  • Ability to work flexible hours to include nights weekends and holidays as required.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Some knowledge of the principles and practices of recreation and/or arts administrative work.
  • Some knowledge of one or more phases of community recreation activities.
  • Some knowledge of first aid methods and necessary safety precautions to be used in recreation work.
  • General knowledge of standard office practices procedures and equipment as well as knowledge of general computer software.
  • General knowledge of cash handling practices.
  • Some knowledge in the use of Microsoft Word Publisher PowerPoint and Excel and Adobe products.
  • Ability to operate a variety of office and computer equipment and produce documents and correspondence.
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions.
  • Ability to learn and operate basic AV equipment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with participants associates and the general public.

Physical Requirements


This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires walking and using hands to finger handle or feel frequently requires standing speaking or hearing and repetitive motions and occasionally requires sitting climbing or balancing stooping kneeling crouching or crawling pushing or pulling and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data assembly or fabrication of parts within arms length operating machines operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires exposure to fumes or airborne particles exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals exposure to outdoor weather conditions exposure to vibration wearing a selfcontained breathing apparatus and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office light traffic).
