As aCommunity Support Assistant you will actively support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in maximizing their independence selfadvocacy and decisionmaking in their community and at home. This is not a caregiver position but an opportunity for support partnership and equitybuilding. While caregivers may monitor and serve our Direct Support Professionals are passionate supporters who are engaging creative and motivated as they support a persons life choices and facilitate opportunities to build relationships.
As a Community Support Assistant you will report to a Program Manager and be responsible for supporting one to four people living in one of The Arcs group homes or their personal homes located in a suburban or rural community in Anne Arundel County. You will have an essential role ensuring the people we support are progressing according to their PersonCentered Plans providing personal care and emotional support as needed and assisting with meal preparation and daily living activities such as cleaning laundry and administering medication. Ensuring safety regulations are being met completing daily logs and progress notes providing transportation and engaging people in meaningful activities is all in a days work for a trusted Direct Support Professional.
This position requires a high school diploma or GED though at least one year of experience working with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities is preferred. Candidates must also possess a valid Drivers license with no egregious records and complete all required Arc and Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) trainings becoming trained as a Certified Medication Technician if you are going to administer medication.
