Job Description

Summary:

ASPCA Spay/Neuter Alliance (ASNA) is the premier training center for highquality highvolume spay/neuter of companion animals. Altering more than 20000 shelter rescue and publicly owned companion animals annually ASNA has trained more than 6000 veterinary professionals and fourth year veterinary student externs at our campus in Asheville NC since 2005. ASNA is proud to set the bar for the standard of care in HQHVSN and provide worldclass spay and neuter surgical instruction to veterinary professionals and students.

The Manager Animal Transport and Fleet (MATF) is a pivotal role serving as an animal transport driver fleet operations and maintenance specialist trainer of backup transport drivers an author and enforcer of animal transport policies and procedures and an administrator of daytoday operations including fleet purchasing and maintenance scheduling. The individual in this position has an exciting opportunity to directly support the ASPCAs mission by ensuring geography is not a barrier to the provision of HQHVSN services for unowned and owned cats and dogs in Western North Carolina. Fundamental expectations for this role are possessing exceptional communication skills embracing and executing the principles of teamwork problem solving and collaborating with the Leadership Team and exhibiting a sincere commitment to the mission of ASNA and the ASPCA. This position reports to the Senior Manager Transport Operation (SMTO) and is based in Asheville North Carolina.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

Animal Transport and Transport Partner Relations 65

  • Provide impeccable animal care throughout the patients ASNA experience

  • Ensure safe and humane animal transport including implementation of procedures that align with Animal Transport Best Practice:

  • Maintain open communications with animal transport partners and home base

  • Proactively assess each transport based on fleet readiness weather staffing road conditions route calculations and directives from management

  • Provide a safe and compassionate environment for animals in our care our staff and our clients by using lowstress handling techniques

  • Demonstrate proficiency in the operation and driving of all fleet vehicles

  • Ensure complete and accurate records exist for all patients and update patient records via a computerbased patient management system

  • Recognize nonsurgical candidates and decline animals for transport as necessary

  • Collaborate with partners on issue resolutions and maintain excellent communication and service providing a highquality positive experience in each interaction

  • Adhere to ASNA disease control protocols

  • Drive defensively with care and caution and observe all applicable federal state local and ASPCA rules of the road

  • Participate in mentoring visiting trainees relative to transport operations

  • Adhere to and enforce all applicable safety protocols including SOPs and protocols adopted in response to critical incidents or events

Fleet Management Administration Planning and Operations 30

  • Oversee and assist in all aspects of animal transportincluding but not limited topartner relations quality assurance animal readiness proper transport fleet oversight and maintenance low stress animal handling and emergency preparedness

  • Collaborate with Manager Animal Transport and Logistics to coordinate logistics of fleet maintenance schedules and appointments

  • Contribute to the optimization of the transport operation actively identifying and proposing solutions for opportunities and risks

  • Serve as main contact & responsible party for assigned projects

  • Participate in strategic planning processes and cross departmental projects

  • Serve as a liaison between transport partners and ASNA facilitating issue resolution and giving direct feedback

  • Ensure accurate and uptodate fleet maintenance and inspection logs and ensure vehicle maintenance and repair needs are properly addressed

  • Ensure fleet vehicles are routinely cleaned disinfected and inspected on an ASNA approved schedule and that vehicle supplies are regularly inventoried and stocked

  • Complete annual audits on fleet vehicles and ensure proper and seasonal supplies are maintained in each vehicle.

  • Oversee and track the purchasing of supplies and proper maintenance of program assets including inventory control and fleet preservation

  • In conjunction with leadership and the Fleet Mangagment Team assist with the development and/or implementation of standardized procedures and programmatic advancements

  • Assume financial accountability for an ASPCA credit card and adhere to ASPCA expense and travel policies

  • Assist in orienting and training backup drivers

  • Ensure backup drivers demonstrate proficiency of all animal transport protocols

  • Serve as main POC for vendor pickups such as our blue paper and arrange pick up on a regular schedule

  • Smooth and efficient operation of ASNA surgical medical and training programs

  • Program policies and strategies support ASNAs high standards of quality and best practices

  • All aspects of operations are enforced with campuswide consistency and adherence to all federal state and local regulations

  • A positive learning environment across campus supportive of ASNA culture

  • Participate in assigned ASNA department and program specific projects crossdepartmental working groups and any other assigned commitments to support ASPCAs 2030 goals

  • Attend and serve as an active participant in required meetings representing the voice of the Transport & Fleet function

  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the SMTO or the ASNA Senior Leadership Team

  • Pass a Department of Transportation Medical Exam within 30 days of hire

  • Possess valid NC drivers license and pass a motor vehicle history check demonstrating a safe driving history.

  • Ability to operate a variety of vehicles

  • Possess general knowledge of vehicle maintenance

  • Ability to lift 35 lbs/15 kgs without assistance and over this weight with assistance and the ability to stand bend lift and climb during the course of a regular work shift

Education and Work Experience:

  • High school diploma GED or equivalent

  • Preferred 5 years driving experience

  • Preferred experience in animal transportation or veterinary/animal shelter services

  • Preferred experience in project management

  • Fear Free Shelter certification within 60 days of hire

Compensation and Benefits:

Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of factors including but not limited to education training experience location business needs internal equity market demands or budgeted amount for the role. The target hiring range is for new hire offers only and staff compensation may increase beyond the maximum hiring range based on performance over time. The maximum of the hiring range is reserved for candidates with the highest qualifications and relevant experience. The expected hiring salary range for this role is set forth below and may be modified in the future.

The target range for this position is $25.49$27.89 per hour.
