Public Health Programme Officer (Inclusion Health)

Permanent

Grade 4 :Consultation grade subject to formal evaluation under the Pay Equity Review)

Fulltime 36.5 hours per week

We have an exciting opportunity for a skilled public health practitioner/ programme officer to join our multidisciplinary Public Health Division within the largest Local Authority in the country and lead work that contributes to tackling health inequalities in the city.

This is a fulltime permanent position which is part of the Inclusion Health Team within the Healthy Behaviours and Communities subdivision. We work with a wide range of stakeholders to improve health and wellbeing including internal directorates academics the Integrated Care System partners housing and homelessness justice and the third sectors. The team you will be joining are engaged in a dynamic and diverse range of work focused on the most disadvantaged populations including some innovative initiatives.

About Us

The Inclusion Health Teams mission is to reduce health inequalities affecting inclusion health groups in the city by influencing and working with partners across the council and externally. We aim to drive and facilitate action to address the causes and to mitigate the impact of health inequalities. Our approach is to develop understanding and raise the profile of inclusion health groups needs consolidate evidence on effective interventions and develop approaches and resources to drive action across the system to reduce disparities and improve their health outcomes.

The Role

This role will provide support to define and manage specific projects from comprehensive needs analyses to public health interventions. You will be coordinating and influencing work to improve the health and wellbeing of groups who often face significant barriers to accessing mainstream services such as homeless individuals and those in contact with the criminal justice system. This will involve using your proven public health and project management and matrix working skills to work in partnership across service and organizational boundaries to deliver initiatives. For this you will be consolidating public health evidence and data and using it to develop project proposals and action plans focused on addressing inclusion health needs.

Skills & Experience

This is an ideal opportunity for somebody who:

  • hasexperience of working with a wide range of stakeholders in supporting Public Health outcomes
  • understands the role of public health and other organisations in the inclusion health agenda
  • has excellent organizational skills and is able to work independently to achieve expected outcomes and deliver quality outputs
  • has experience of developing commissioning and coordinating delivery of complex projects
  • has strong written and verbal communication skills and experience in writing briefings reports needs assessments project specifications and plans
  • is able to learn adapt and manage under pressure.
