Job Description

The Vice President of Finance for Physician Organizations is the Chief Finance Officer over UCSF Faculty Practice/SOM Physicians (funds flow and alternative payment arrangements) Ambulatory ServicesUCSF/Benioff Childrens Physicians Joint Operations 3 companies) and other Community Physicians as affiliated with UCSF Health.This position is responsible for the planning and monitoring of all financial operations including the establishment of financial goals and priorities budget development decision support and reporting. The Vice President also serves as a strategic advisor for all financial planning and governance as well as serves to proactively contribute to UCSF Health mission and vision through appropriately working closely executive leadership in developing strategic plans for physician network development and monitoring its .

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80 120 of the established midpoint. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $273200 $575400 (Annual Rate).


Minimum of ten 10 years of progressive accounting finance and leadership experience.
Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance or related field.
Masters degree and/or CPA required.
Strong administrative leadership experience in an academic medical center and/or healthcare setting.
In depth knowledge and leadership of accounting reporting budgeting and benchmarking practices and procedures as they apply to physician organizations and related supported entities.
Proven ability to identify process improvements and lead process owners through successful change management.
Leadership skills in communication and presentation including demonstrated ability to present to senior level executives and confidence in providing input and opinion on key subject matter.
Demonstrated success influencing diverse partners and leading teams that include direct and nondirect reports in crossfunctional settings.
Possesses a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty integrity and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the mission vision goals and values of UCSF.
Excellent critical thinking facilitation problem solving and analytical skills.
Collaborative Leadership: In a highly complex and matrixed organizational environment the successful candidate must demonstrate a history of building collaborative relationships developing strategies and engaging in constructive problemsolving.
Results Driven: The VP Finance/CFO Physician Organization must be able to utilize metrics and technology in a way that drives excellence supports operations and facilitates integration across a historically disparate organization.
Relationship Building: The ideal candidate must be able to build outstanding relationships at all levels of the organization in an environment that is managed through influence and relationships and not just positional power.
Communication Skills: The ideal candidate must be able to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner that is comprehensible to a wide range of stakeholders.

Experience in large health systems or at academic medical centers and teaching institutions nationally
Experience managing strategic initiatives across multiple missions and in concert with external institutional partners
