THE POSITION:
Are you an animal lover who is energetic and outgoingThe Solano County Animal Care Division of the Sheriffs Office may have a position for you. The Animal Care Outreach and Volunteer Coordinator is an integral part of the shelters mission to increase our live release rate through volunteer services adoptions rescues and foster families.


EXTRA HELP

This recruitment is intended to fill an Extra Help position. Extrahelp employees do not have rights to a regular position or continued employment and are excluded from civil service. The hours worked may be parttime or fulltime but hours cannot exceed more than 999 hours in a fiscal year.

The eligible list established from this recruitment will be used to fill Extra Help positions.

Note: All CalPERS retirees applying for Extra Help positions must meet CalPERS post retirement employment requirements. Work must be performed for a limited duration and retiree annuitant may not work more than 960 hours per fiscal year.

Note: The possession of an Associates degree or higher in public administration business administration economics accounting biological sciences animal sciences or communications is desired and may be a factor considered during the rating and/or selection process.

Candidates who want their Associates degree considered int eh evaluation process must submit a copy of their college diploma (verifying the degree date earned and area of specialization) or official/unofficial transcripts (verifying institution student date degree and area of specialization conferred) by the final filing deadline.

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING: Candidates who attended a college or university that is accredited by a foreign or nonU.S. accrediting agency must have their educational units evaluated by an educational evaluation service. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Applicants are required to possess a valid California Drivers License Class C.

All licenses certificates and registrations must be kept current while employed in this class.


OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
  • Background Checks: The County may conduct a background check and a reference check on candidates prior to appointment to a position within this class. The background check may include the State of California Department of Justice the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) the Child Abuse Central Index (CACI) and criminal checks in any City/County where the applicant has lived worked or gone to school.
  • Independent Travel: The employee is required to travel independently for example to attend meetings with other County employees to attend meetings with community organizations etc.
  • Rabies Vaccination: The employee in this class must receive preexposure rabies vaccination within three months of appointment.
  • Hours of Work: The employee may be required to work weekends holidays irregular hours oncall and after normal business hours.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Office Work: The employee in this class will most often be working in an office setting.
  • Work in an Animal Shelter: The employee in this class will also be working in an animal shelter and thus will be subject to exposure to dirt dust pollen odors loud and/or constant noises fumes chemicals toxic agents animal blood and other bodily fluids bites and scratches from animals and pathogenic substances. The employee in this class may also be exposed to animals with injuries and to animals who must be euthanized and disposed of.
  • Traffic Hazards: The employee in this class will be required to operate a vehicle and thus will be subject to traffic hazards while driving.
  • Disruptive/Confrontational Human Contacts: The employee in this class may be subject to disruptive and confrontational people.

SELECTION PROCESS

Based on the information provided in the application documents the qualified applicants may be invited for further examination and will either be prescheduled by the Department of Human Resources or be invited to selfschedule. All applicants meeting the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement through any subsequent phase of the examination. Depending upon the number of applications received the selection process may consist of an initial application screening a mandatory information meeting a supplemental questionnaire assessment a written and/or practical exam an oral board exam or any combination listed. Responses to supplemental questions may be used as screening and testing mechanisms and will be used to assess an applicants ability to advance in the process; as such responses to supplemental questions should be treated as test examination responses. A minimum score of 70 is required to continue in the selection process unless otherwise announced.

All potential new hires and employees considered for promotion to management confidential positions or unrepresented positions will be subject to a background and reference check after contingent job offer is accepted. These provisions are subject to change.
