What will you do

Apprenticeship Coach

  • Work with youth aged 1624 who are interested in the Trades and the Apprenticeship pathway
  • Work with Employers and Academic Institutes on what is required to be successful in a trades apprenticeship
  • Explore different trade options with clients what each entail tours of jobsites talking to trade union representatives
  • 1 on 1 support and coaching beginning to end to ensure client in prepared and comfortable in apprenticeship
  • understanding what barriers might be present to getting into trades and apprenticeships
  • Understanding of the application and paperwork required for apprenticeship programs
  • Travel to clients and assist with technology and access support though applications
  • Coordinates placement details such as hours of work wages and benefits between clients and employers on a case by case basis
  • Coordinates apprenticeship details with clients and other external stakeholders e.g. TAP Coordinators Unions Employers Academic Institutes
  • Provides preemployment support such as: resume/cover letter development assistance in the application process and interview preparation for clients on a case by case basis

Apprenticeship Retention

  • Provide intensive onsite assessments of barriers to apprenticeship retention while client is going to school / working
  • Build the capacity of the employer supervisor and coworkers the work with youth with disabilities on an asneeded basis
  • Strengthen client/coworker and client/supervisor relationships
  • Build client capacity and confidence in job tasks selfadvocacy organization professionalism and interpersonal skills

What does it take to do this job

  • Postsecondary education is required
  • Intermediate skill level in Microsoft Office (Word Outlook PowerPoint Excel); previous experience in other sales applications (CRM record keeping) are considered assets
  • Exemplary verbal communication with strong business writing skills
  • A genuine desire to build differing levels of relationships with varying client population groups Employers and internal/external stakeholders
  • Exceptional client service with the ability to present ideas and/or services to individuals and groups
  • Able to take initiative and be resourceful in seeking out placement opportunities including the ability to reach out and make connections
  • Highly professional driven charismatic reliable and confident individual who thrives under pressure
  • Past experience with Apprenticeship programs in the trades is an asset
  • Past experience with preemployment strategies and knowledge of the local labour market are considered assets
  • Exposure to diversity and inclusion programs is an asset

  • Must have a valid drivers license and reliable vehicle
  • Travel in Calgary and southern Alberta is essential to this role
  • All employees must pass a criminal background check
  • Those candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
