Primary Purpose of Role:

The Factory Controls Engineering department develops technical & design specifications for equipment production tests and oversees the implementation of new equipment to ensure the business units requirements are met and follow the companys standards.

The Factory Controls Engineer will support all activities involved in integrating machines across all plants to the business systems. Data will be collected formatted and logged to IT business systems for display and analysis. Validation of data quality will be a key aspect of this engineers day to day activities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop hardware requirements required to collect data required by the Industry 4.0 applications used by Allison Transmission.
• Work with skilled trades in house to retrofit machines as required to gather Industry 4.0 data.
• Develop and support network architectures to support timely integration of new machines into the Allison Transmission operation teams Network.
• Aid in the review and update of system specifications to ensure that new equipment is providing data that meets business requirements.
• Aid in reviewing machine quote sections related to data gathering to ensure adherence to specifications and process requirements.
• Modify PLC (PLC SLC Logix 5000 and CNC (Fanuc and Siemens) to obtain data for integration on existing machines at Allison Transmission.
• Assist in developing procuring implementing and support infrastructure systems that will be used to communicate between factory floor equipment and business systems.
• Support the training of peer engineers plant maintenance quality and production personnel responsible for supporting equipment operations.
• Ensures processes and procedures are safe and efficient work being is being performed.
• Based on business need a candidate will assist support and/or perform other job functions within department.
• Support continuous improvement activities within manufacturing processes.
• Investigate system trends and suggest modifications that provide business benefit.

Competencies and Behaviors:

Required:

• Good interpersonal oral and written communications skills.
• Ability to use PC and jobrelated software/programs for programming design and documentation.

• Ability to learn controls systems to assist with troubleshooting. Familiar with AllenBradley PAC/PLC control systems.
• Familiar with device communication networks including AllenBradley DH Ethernet IP etc.
• Willingness to be on call on a rotational basis; approximately 35 weekends a year.
• Willingness to work weekends and holidays as project work requires.

Qualifications:

:

• Associate or Bachelors degree: Electrical Engineering/Electrical Engineering Technology Mechanical Engineering/Mechanical Engineering Technology Robotics Engineering Technology Mechatronics Engineering Technology or equivalent work experience required.

Experience:

Preferred:

• 2 years experience
• Familiar with AllenBradley PAC/PLC control systems.
• Familiar with device communication networks including AllenBradley DH Ethernet IP etc.
