SUMMARY:Provide direct or consultative services to students to help reduce or eliminate disabilities related to speech and/or language in order to derive the full benefit from the districts educational programs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides direct speech language therapy services to students including conducting thorough screenings assessment and diagnosis of speech voice and language impairments; interprets results to parents and teachers and writes appropriate recommendations and reports.
  • Develops implements and monitors IEPs for students eligible for speech and language services.
  • Provides appropriate individualized programs of therapy to meet individual students needs and correct existing speech and/or language dysfunction.
  • Assists and guides teachers in observing describing and referring students with suspected and identified speech and language impairments.
  • Collaborates with classroom teachers and other school staff members to implement therapy by making suggestions for the students daily activities.
  • Assists in proper referrals of individuals to agencies and specialists in the community as appropriate.
  • Provides information and support to parents and families when appropriate.
  • Provides inservice education and serves as a consultant to teachers and school staff members on topics concerning speech services.
  • Keeps thorough ongoing records for the individual student receiving therapy or other school provided speech services.
  • Participates in professional growth activities and keeps abreast of new developments in the field.
  • Establishes and maintains good rapport with students employees community members and vendors.
  • Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
  • Other job related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

  • Masters degree in Speech Language Pathology.
  • Current Arizona Standard SpeechLanguage Pathologist Certification.
  • Current Arizona Department of Health Speech Language Pathologist License.
  • American Hearing and Speech Association Clinical Certification of Competence preferred.
  • Obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card (AZ IVP FPCC).
  • Possession of a valid Arizona drivers license at time of appointment and throughout employment. Proof of currentauto liability insurance at the time of appointment and throughout employment. Personal transportationfor jobrelated travel.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Reading and interpreting general documents such as employee handbooks and safety/training manuals.
  • Writing general correspondence and speak effectively with others.
  • Adding subtracting multiplying and dividing in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals.
  • Basic principles and applications of critical thinking and analysis.
  • Best practices trends and emerging technologies.
  • Uses and properties of supplies and equipment.
  • Specialized equipment relevant to area of assignment.

SKILL IN:

  • Applying reason to research and solving moderately complex issues with little or no assistance.
  • Interpreting an assortment of instructions furnished in variable forms.
  • Maintaining and updating documentation.
  • Organizing and maintaining records files and program information.
  • Gathering data analyzing findings and applying logic and reason.
  • Authoring and preparing original reports documents and presentations.
  • Researching industry trends solutions and best practices.
  • Maintaining confidentiality.
  • Utilizing a computer and relevant software applications.
  • Utilizing communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers supervisors the general public and others to sufficiently exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

ADA AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Positions in this class require: stooping crouching reaching standing walking fingering grasping feeling talking hearing seeing and repetitive motions.

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

Working Conditions: Work is routinely performed in an indoor office environment.
