Job Description

Job Description:

Direct and manage districts athletic program and facilities and instruct and coach students to develop skills and abilities to excel in athletics. Provide each student with the opportunity to participate in an extracurricular athletic activity and ensure compliance with all federal state University Interscholastic League (UIL) and local requirements.

Special Knowledge/Skills:


Knowledge of overall operations of an athletic program
Knowledge of coaching techniques and procedures
Knowledge of federal state and UIL policies governing athletics
Ability to instruct and supervise student athletes
Ability to pass U.S. Department of Transportation alcohol and drug tests and annual physical (include if bus driving duties are required)
Ability to implement policy and procedures
Ability to interpret data
Ability to manage budget and personnel
Excellent public relations organizational communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to speak effectively before groups of students parents and staff

Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Establish performance criteria for competition and manage athletic activities contests and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills teamwork and good sportsmanship. Model performance criteria and perform physical movements required for successful student performance of sport.

  2. Maintain an active program that promotes good sportsmanship and student development including the time resources and materials to support accomplishment of department goals.

  3. Establish and maintain physical and academic eligibility requirements for participation in each sport and verify each athletes eligibility.

  4. Use a variety of instructional and coaching techniques to meet the needs and improve the abilities of student athletes in the sport of football.

  5. Take all necessary precautions to protect studentathletes equipment materials and facilities.

  6. Work with other members of school staff to plan and implement instructional goals and objectives to ensure the overall educational development of student athletics.

  7. Obtain and use evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to gauge athletic program effectiveness and ensure that program renewal is continuous and responsive to student needs.

  8. Monitor and enforce student eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation.ge district athletic operations including directing ticket sales employing game officials and ensuring preparation of facilities.

  9. Prepare and approve all interscholastic game schedules.

  10. Arrangetransportation lodging and meals for outoftown athletic events. (Drive bus to transport students to outofdistrict competition (optional).

  11. Implement district student management policies communicate expected student behavior related to athletics and ensure enforcement of student discipline in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.

  12. Accompany and supervise student athletes during football games both athome and on outoftown trips.

  13. Instruct and advise students on NCAA regulations with regard to academic requirements for scholarships and recruiting practices.

  14. Apply and enforce student discipline during athletic contests practice sessions and while on trips off school property in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.

  15. Encourage by example and through instruction sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation.

  16. Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents students principals and teachers.

  17. Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the districts curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in individual student differences.

  18. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies activities materials equipment and technology that reflect an understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned and present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency board policies and administrative regulations.

  19. Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.

  20. Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).

  21. Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals objectives and methods according to district requirements.

  22. Plan and assign work to the instructional aide(s) and volunteer(s) and oversee completion.

  23. Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.

  24. Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.

  25. Be a positive role model for students; support the mission of the school district.

  26. Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical social and emotional development of students.

  27. Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and the student handbook.

  28. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities.

  29. Assist in selecting books equipment and other instructional materials.

  30. Compile maintain and file all reports records and other documents required.

  31. Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents students colleagues and community members.

  32. Participate in staff development activities to improve jobrelated skills.

  33. Comply with state district and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.

  34. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or training for subject and level assigned
  • Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned
  • Physical Education Teachers: Current automated external defibrillator (AED) certificate
  • Willingness to grow professionally
  • Strong communication interpersonal and organizational skills required
  • One year student teaching or approved internship
