Position Overview
27 News in Topeka is seeking a parttime sports producer to lead our weekly KU/KState sports show KNation. This allaccess program covers all Division I sports at both universities and serves as the foundation of our sports coverage. The producer will be responsible for overseeing the weekly Sunday broadcast managing an editorial calendar and booking guests and segments throughout the year. This role also involves shooting video and interviews for the show as well as producing digital content for KSNT.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce sports segments interviews and longform shows for broadcast and digital platforms ensuring content is clear engaging and informative.
- Write scripts teases preshows and cold opens.
- View and approve video clips for accuracy and quality.
- Edit video for stories and teases using a desktop editing system.
- Create graphics to enhance storytelling.
- Collaborate with reporters assignment editors directors and managers on sports content.
- Communicate effectively with control room staff and anchors.
- Build and maintain relationships with university athletics programs.
- Coordinate credentials and planning for sports coverage.
- Work weekends as part of the regular schedule.
- Adapt to evolving needs as management may modify duties as required.
Qualifications
- Proficiency in script writing video editing and graphics creation.
- Experience working collaboratively with reporters and producers.
- Familiarity with digital editing systems and graphic technologies.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- College degree in journalism communications or broadcasting preferred.
- Selfmotivated adaptable and efficient with a strong work ethic.
