Job Description:

Madison College is seeking a Parttime Career Navigator to join their team in a Limited Term Employment (LTE) opportunity. This position is part of the School of Academic Advancement and focuses on developing and delivering comprehensive support services to assist students with foreign diploma recredentialing academic planning professional development and career navigation. The primary responsibility of this role is to manage a cohort of students guiding them through Madison College processes while providing academic and career coaching.

Additionally this position supports students districtwide ensuring that special cohorts receive the appropriate level of coaching based on their need.

The Parttime Career Navigator collaborates closely with internal Madison College stakeholders and external community partners to enhance student success. This role reports to the Associate Dean of the School of Academic Advancement (SAA).

This is 20hour a week position with standard business hours of Monday through Friday 8:00am 4:30pm. While occasional evening and weekend work may be required it is not typical. This position has the option to perform work remotely with the expectation for in office work four 4 days a week. Subject to change per Madison College policy.

This is a limitedterm employment opportunity through December 312025.

Essential Responsibilities:

Coaching Duties

  • Provides individual and group academic and career coaching specific to immigrant and refugee populations (recredentialing of foreign diplomas transfer transition to Madison College career exploration employment and professional development opportunities and decision making using a variety of resources appropriate to the students needs) and other student populations needing these services.
  • Assists in the development of public relations materials recruitment and promotional activities that articulates the purpose and intent of career navigation role in the District and in the community.
  • Keeps accurate records of student participation and outcomes; collects participant data to support program evaluation and reporting processes.
  • Participate in monthly trainings throughout the year and attend biweekly community of practice meetings.
  • Monitors student progress and intervenes with students in academic jeopardy by helping them to make appropriate decisions and persist towards their goals. Creates academic success plans.
  • Communicates regularly and effectively with students through personal contacts small group settings and online technology.
  • Participates and supports learner success strategies programs and courses advocating for the needs of students cultural differences and uniqueness.
  • Works collaboratively with internal and external partners to coordinate services to students.
  • Collaborates with SAA staff and faculty to strategize ways to ensure student success when students are having trouble in selected courses.
  • Researches develops and collects online and printed resources related to academic success for reference in appointments and shares these resources with students and other SAA staff.

Intake & Assessment Duties

  • Provides a positive first pointofcontact experience and completes an intake.
  • Responds promptly to inperson telephone and written (including electronic) inquiries received from students faculty staff prospective students and external stakeholders.
  • Provides assistance in helping students to understand procedures and access appropriate forms teaches students how to navigate the Madison College website use their student center to register run advising reports set up accounts request transcripts etc.
  • Uses a student administration system imaging and communications management software to assist students and document services such as PeopleSoft OnBase Microsoft Teams and EAB Navigate.
  • Maintains confidentiality on all matters as required by state/federal law and Madison College policy.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to work with students and internal/external partners as well as students from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Skill in communicating effectively and professionally both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated skill in communications and human relations with populations of diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds and persons with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of academic personal and career coaching techniques as well as developmental advising skills and academic and career advising skills. Knowledge of Student Development theory and principles as well as students needs and intervention strategies.
  • Ability to plan organize promote and implement events education workshops inservices and programs.
  • Knowledge of college enrollment management and student administration tools (i.e. PeopleSoft). Knowledge of CAS standards for academic and career advising and NACADA core values.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a collaborative teamoriented environment with the ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with individuals at all levels in the organization with students staff and the public.
  • Ability to organize analyze and present data related to the retention program services and outcomes.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Associate degree (Preferred in Education Human Services or Social Sciences) or equivalent working experience. *Experience used as an equivalent of an educational requirement is in addition to any experience required by the position.
  • Two 2 years of directly related experience with a minimum of one 1 year of successful training or experience with high school students or in a related coaching/tutoring/advising retention or enrichment program that focuses on academic and personal.
  • Bilingual in Spanish French or Arabic.
