Description

Thompson Rivers University is seeking a sessional faculty member who will teach ECED 1320: Child Guidance 3 credits) in Kamloops.

Calendar description:

This course is designed to demonstrate the positive influential effects of developmentally appropriate practice and a positive environment on childrens behavior. Students are instructed in how to support childrens social and emotional development through an examination of the significance of play interpreting childrens behavior and individualizing interactions with children. To practice direct and indirect guidance strategies students focus on the development of meaningful relationships and positive selfesteem for young children.



Requirements

Of particular interest are those who have successful experience working collaboratively with ECE faculty to support ECE students in planning and implementing innovative educational programs for young children. Experience supporting and evaluating student progress in onsite and community based practica and liaising with community educators regarding student progress is significantly valued.

The following qualifications are required for the successful applicant:

  • A masters degree in education or equivalent in a relevant field. Equivalent qualifications and/or experience will be considered such as professional qualifications or where the candidate has accumulated experience and accomplishments judged to be particularly relevant and valuable to the discipline. A specific example of an equivalent qualification would be a Master of Arts degree plus five years experience in a professional setting commensurate with the teaching area or professional role in which they will be employed with demonstrated evidence of significant professional development activity over the fiveyear period.
  • Fiveyears of experience working with young children educators families and other early years professionalsand is able to show evidence of the following:
    • working knowledge of curriculum and pedagogy thinking with the current BC Early Learning Framework.
    • working knowledge of professional competencies andknowledge required to be certified as an early childhood educator in BC in accordance with the ECE Registry (someone out of province who as interested could easily access this information)
    • experience and knowledge of the current issues of early childhood education at a local level and beyond.
  • Relevant successful teaching experience in early childhood education programs for 35yearolds.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of pedagogical narrations and innovative programs for young children.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the course topic areas.
  • Demonstrated experience in integrating Indigenous knowledge and teaching methods (TRC CA 62
  • Proven skills in building student capacity for intercultural understanding empathy and mutual respect (TRC CA 62
  • Teaching excellence including developing culturally appropriate curricula (TRC CA 10
  • Excellent organizational interpersonal and communication skills

The following qualification is a Preferred requirement for the successful applicant:

  • Successful teaching experience in postsecondary institutions.
