DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION

Prospect one of Albertas leading nonprofits is looking for a skilledEmployment Retention Specialistto join our team. Youll help people transition into new jobs while supporting them and their employers for success and retention of the job.

Prospect lives by four words: Break barriers. Employ change. Anywhere people face barriers to employment were there to help.This position provides onsite job support for clients while working with employers and clients to achieve stable retained employment. You must have experience working with people with a broad range of disabilities including mental illness and developmental disabilities.

Whats a typical day look like

You will act as an Employment Retention Specialist for clients as you promote your role to employers in information sessions and client interviews. Researching a clients file will help you discover their service plan work history diagnosis support network and learning style. All these factors will help inform your decisions. Youll analyze work environments and cultures to anticipate barriers for clients.

Youll observe clients work on the job at various sites and collaborate with employers to create strategies for success. Youll also update the rest of the Prospect team including Career Advisors Employment Specialists and other members of the clients support network.

Well need you to maintain a strong working knowledge of Alberta Labour Standards Occupational Health and Safety Standards Canadian Employment Equity Act CET standards and funder policies and protocols.

What does it take to do this job

  • Postsecondary education in Business Social or Behavioral Sciences Human Services Psychology Life Coaching Leadership and/or a related discipline.
  • 2 years related experience; with demonstrated reliability shown in past positions.
  • Some postsecondary education and/or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience will be considered.
  • Moderate skill level in Microsoft Office(Word Excel Outlook and PowerPoint).
  • Persuasion negotiation tenacity and a resultsoriented attitude.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills with demonstrated ability to present and facilitate.
  • Excellent listening and critical thinking skills with the ability to identify problems and provide strategic workable solutions.
  • Ability to work individually and in a broader team based environment.
  • A driven ambitious charismatic person who thrives under pressure.
  • Knowledge of labour market and workforce planning solutions.
  • Exposure to Diversity and Inclusion specific to disabilities is an asset.
  • Able to maintain high ethical standards and handle sensitive information in a confidential diplomatic manner.

Further Notes:

  • A reliable vehicle and valid drivers license is required for regular travel to various job sites.
  • Ability to work a shift within the hours of 6am11pm any day of the week at various employer sites.
  • The successful candidate must pass a background criminal check.
  • Those with a combination of postsecondary education along with professional experience may be considered.
