Job Description
Daystar Academy an IB continuum school in the city of Chicago serves students in primary middle school and high school. We are looking for a bus driver (part time) for theschool year.

The minimum qualifications for this position:
- Possess a current Commercial Drivers License (CDL)
- Hold a current School Bus Drivers Permit
- Certified in First Aid and CPR for all age groups transported
- While we welcome global applicants we can currently only accept international applicants already paired with a Visa organization
- Commitment to Daystars Statement of Faith and to teaching at a Christian school
- Commitment to the faith development of Daystar students
Essential Job Functions Relative to role as Bus Driver:
- Ensures the safety and wellbeing of children and adults being transported to and from the program and on field trips.
- Arranges for the annual state inspection of the bus(as) before program begins to transport children; assures with prior approval purchases and/or repairs are made pursuant to state inspection.
- Completes a comprehensive written inspection of the bus daily reporting any conditions of concern to the Head of School or delegated staff person before transporting children.
- Ensures that the communication device (e.g. twoway radio cellular phone) is in proper working order before each trip.
- Arranges for and ensures completion of routine maintenance of bus (e.g. oil change); transporting the bus to and from maintenance and/or repair facilities.
- Ensures that the bus always has sufficient fuel.
- In consultation with the Head of School develops and follows efficient and safe written bus routes.
- Operates bus in such a way that road and safety regulations are always followed; reports any traffic violations to the Head of School immediately.
- With the assistance teachers and chaperones ensures all children are in age appropriate child safety restraints at all times during transportation.
- Assists with ensuring child/staff ratios are maintained on the bus and provides day to day guidance to the teachers and chaperones.
- With the assistance of the teachers and chaperones follows safe bus loading and unloading procedures.
- Follows procedures to guarantee no child is left alone on bus without adult supervision at any time including ensuring all children have departed bus at the end of all bus routes (morning evening and during field trips or other special trips).
- Keeps the bus clean and free of debris; follows other bus cleaning procedures.
- Routinely inventories bus emergency and first aid supplies and equipment reports needs to the Head of School or delegated staff person.
- Manages bus drills and ensures bus evacuation drills are held as needed. Documents all drills in writing.
- In case of accidents/emergencies evacuates children according to written and practiced procedures.
- In the event of an accident assures that medical emergency procedures are followed; completes a written accident report as required by delegates procedure and other authorities.
- Attends and participates in center preservice and inservice trainings and other continuing education career and professional development opportunities.
- Maintain confidentiality about children their families and other employees.
- Model positive and respectful interactions with students and all members of the Daystar community at all times.
- Support professional collaboration with teachers and staff members to ensure consistency and continuity in classroom programs.
- Collaborate with teachers and staff through problemsolving flexibility communication and encouragement.
- Adhere to all of the requirements outlined in the Staff Handbook.
- Build a sense of trust in the school by fostering a respectful cordial and professional relationship with parents.
- Be an excellent ambassador of Daystar Academy at all times.
- Respect all school procedures and organizational structure.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
