Job Description

Class Summary

This is a parttime position with a maximum of 1508 hours per year and is not eligible for paid holidays leave or benefits.

Gwinnett County Parks and Recreation Operations maintains and operates the countys awardwinning park system and provides high quality parks and recreation facilities innovative programs and quality services to meet the broadbased needs of Gwinnetts diverse population fostering a sense of community creating a safe and secure environment and enhancing Gwinnetts quality of life.

Essential Duties
  • Basic swimming lesson teaching skills/duties.
  • Skill in teaching classes.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in swimming abilities.
  • Ability to handle teaching activities while in the water.
  • Be able to identify problems either visually or by auditory means in order to be alert to life saving needs.
Other Job Requirements/Information
This job is a safety sensitive position that will require a preemployment drug test and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with Gwinnett County Drug and AlcoholFree Workplace.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be 16 years of age.
  • Candidates must have valid and current Water Safety Instructor or Lifeguard Instructor certification by date of hire.

  • Represent Gwinnett County in a positive manner.
  • Be familiar with course materials and how to use them effectively.
  • Plan coordinate and manage courses effectively.
  • Create a positive environment encouraging participants to meet course objectives.
  • Remain alert to cultural and ethnic stereotypes and be creative and flexible in presenting material in a culturally sensitive and effective manner.
  • Be prepared to answer participants questions or know where to find the answers.
  • Adapt your teaching approaches to the experience ability and culture of the participants so they can achieve the course objectives.
  • Provide for the health and safety of participants including making sure that all teaching and practice areas are free of hazards and that materials and equipment are safe.
  • Organize the class environment to ensure individual success.
  • Cover all material required in a course.
  • Be able to demonstrate the skills required of your students.
  • Use appropriate positive feedback to evaluate participants progress and correct problems.
  • Supervise monitor and provide guidance to instructor aides assisting with the course.
  • Ensure that participants have every opportunity to meet course requirements.
  • Provide positive critiques and guidance to those unable to complete course requirements.
  • Issue progress reports and certificates to participants.
  • Submit completed course records to your facilitys supervisor along with timesheets.

These external offices are created by the Georgia Constitution or through state law. In Gwinnett they include the Sheriff Tax Commissioner District Attorney Solicitor Probate Court Judge and Chief Magistrate.
