Title: Housing Navigator

Summary
The Housing Navigator position provides assistance information and support to clients around securing safe appropriate housing using subsidies and/or other available resources in New York City that suit the individuals needs and to maintain residential stability. The Housing Navigator must be aware of and understand current housing subsidies public benefit programs and develop resources to include establishing relationships with landlords and brokers.
Key Responsibilities
These Key Responsibilities are not limited to the following as additional tasks may be assigned from time to time by management.
- Assess each clients housing needs within 48 hours of referral and participate in developing discharge plan
- Assist in determination of clients eligibility for governmentfinanced housing programs and benefit programs
- Identify obtain and assist documents needed for applications for supportive and permanent housing
- Assist in the escorting of clients to housing appointments and referring entities outside of the facility
- Identify and maintain resources of key information and individuals in various agencies (HRA NYCHA HPD) to facilitate the most current and accurate permanent housing application processes
- Develop and maintain a database of available housing resources as well as other relevant community resources (i.e. banks utility company contacts grocery stores pharmacies transportation etc.
- Identify new housing opportunities for clients through ongoing networking
- Maintain strong working relationships with landlord and management companies
- Prepare clients for permanent housing interviews and arranges for transportation or escorts as needed
- Ensure that the discharge plan meets the safety selfsufficiently and related need of the client in collaboration with social service staff members
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 pounds.
- Must be able to travel to multiple NYC sites as needed.
Work Environment / Schedule Requirements:
- The standard work schedule is Monday through Friday 9AM 5PM but may include evenings and/or weekends (Saturday and Sunday) on a limited basis as required. The position currently follows a hybrid schedule with a combination of remote and inoffice work. However this arrangement is subject to change at the employers discretion.
- Employees are not permitted to leave their assigned posts/workstations without authorization.
Qualifications:
- Must be able to read speak write and understand English for administrative purposes.
- Must pass drug screening to be appointed.
- This position may be subject to a series of investigations before and after appointment.
- Bachelors degree in human services social services behavioral science psychology or a related field preferred
- One year of relevant communitybased residential management or social service agency experience preferred
- Demonstrated prior success in case management functions or eligibility determinations for communitybased social welfare organizations desirable
- Knowledgeable of the plight of the homeless and special needs populations
- Knowledgeable of case work/case management methodologies
- Commitment to the mission of the NAICA Inc.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively well with diverse groups
- Proven ability to handle multiple tasks effectively under pressure
- Strong organizational skills detailoriented and efficient
- Maturity integrity and sound judgment
