The Opportunity

The (IMA) International Medical Assistant position is designed for International Medical Graduates or Internationally Trained Physicians. It is ideal for the individual who is looking to gain knowledge in the Canadian healthcare system and is actively pursuing their medical licensing in North America. The (IMA) International Medical Assistant position works under the supervision of a physician who is acting as a technician and assistant being the eyes and ears of the doctor in the exam room.

Compensation:
$17.70/hour plus additional bonuses based on individual services.
Must meet training milestones in the first three weeks of employment including all exams and certificates.
Following a 3Month probationary period the (IMA) International Medical Assistant position is eligible for a Performance Review. Following the successful completion of this review they will have the opportunity to train in one or more specialty programs (e.g. Diabetes Program Travel Medicine Allergy Testing Foot Care and Wellbaby).

Benefits: Vision dental medical and paramedical services with eligibility beginning at 6 months of continuous full time employment.

What Youll Do

(IMA) International Medical Assistants are fully trained on and responsible for the following:
Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive patient care.
Assist in performing triage taking patient histories and conducting limited physical examinations when needed.
Schedule patient appointments tests and procedures optimizing the clinics schedule and minimizing patient wait times.
Coordinate referrals to specialists and follow up on patient care plans.
Appropriate application of scripts scenarios and clinical skills and usage of EMR.
Ensure consistent inventory levels through daily stocking of exam rooms.
Ensure a clean & quiet environment by cleaning/sanitizing exam rooms common spaces foyers bathrooms.
Proper registration of the patient administratively (i.e. reception scheduling collecting payments etc.
Basic IT troubleshooting as needed.
Accompany healthcare providers during patient visits and document patient encounters in realtime.
Document patient encounters medical histories and treatment plans accurately in electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
Prepare and update patient charts ensuring they are current and complete.
Assist with order entry including prescriptions referrals and diagnostic tests as directed by the provider.
Assisting health care providers with medical procedures such as wound care suture removal and specimen collection.
Assist with minor surgical procedures and provide postoperative care instructions to patients.
Females: Perform Pap examination under supervision specimen collection and documentation
Collaborate effectively with physicians managers medical assistants and administrative staff to ensure seamless patient care and clinic operations.
Participate in team meetings training and other quality improvement initiatives.
Other duties as required

What Were Looking For

Completion of a medical degree is a must.
Completion of MCCQE USMLE and/or NAC OSCE is considered an asset.
Previous residency interviews in the US or Canada is considered an asset.
Recent medical experience (within the last 5 years) is considered an asset.
Excellent communication skills in English with the ability to communicate effectively with patients families and healthcare professionals (spoken written reading and comprehension); other languages are considered an asset.
Must be permanently eligible to work in Canada (i.e. Permanent Resident or Canadian Citizen) or have a Work Permit valid beyond 12 months (no sponsorships).
Typing speed of 40WPM for data entry.
Committed reliable and flexible regarding scheduling of shifts (i.e. days evenings and weekends).
Flexibility regarding working at multiple clinic/office locations in the city.
Exceptional customer service skills.
Professionalism and a positive attitude.
Enthusiasm.
Respectful of others.
Passion for personal learning training and ongoing development.
Strong understanding of medical terminology clinical procedures and patient care protocols.
Proficiency in using electronic medical records (EMR) systems and other relevant software.
Basic IT knowledge and familiarity with computer systems.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic healthcare setting.
Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and patient needs.
Prior experience in a clinical administrative role is an asset.
