The Peel Compton Foundation is a premiere and growing nonprofit organization located in Bentonville AR. The Peel Compton Foundation owns and operates the Peel Museum & Botanical Garden Compton Gardens & Arboretum Coler Mountain Bike Preserve and Osage Park. The uniting mission for these diverse properties is to connect the community through nature education recreation and preservation. The Peel Compton Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.
Foresting the Future is a tree planting initiative with the purpose of enhancing the tree canopy and beautifying Northwest Arkansas through the following initiatives:
Street park and trail plantings for beautification in strategic high priority areas
Community tree giveaways for residents to plant and maintain
Planting in neighborhoods with little to no tree canopy for overall regional tree canopy growth
About the Position: Youll join a topnotch team facilitate the evaluation of Foresting the Future tree program. This includes assessment of previous tree plantings throughout Northwest Arkansas. Placing an emphasis on established tree general health tree growth rate validate accurate tree placement in tree plotting software evaluate tree mortality rate and propose future tree planting sites. As well as proposing social media content to help establish a stronger presence for Foresting the Future platform.
General Responsibilities:
Evaluate current tree planting for general health growth rate and mortality rate
Update and validate current tree placement in tree plotting software
Propose future tree planting sites
Enhance social media and website platform for Foresting the Future
Provide a presentation upon conclusion of internship
Who we are seeking:
Summer intern. Duration of internship will be 1012 weeks.
Selfmotivated can work independently preference to work outdoors
Passion for horticulture forestry and/or arboriculture
Willingness to learn Tree Plotter software
Effective written and verbal communication
Adept at using Microsoft Office Suite including Word and Excel
Successfully pass a background check and drug screening
Possession of a valid drivers licenseand reliable vehicle
Must be currently enrolled at a college or university
