Data Product Owner

Position Overview

The Data Product Owner is responsible for partnering crossfunctionally across the organization to understand business goals and requirements to support data driven decisionmaking. The individual will own the intake prioritization requirements definition acceptance criteria and stakeholder communication for the Campus Data Team. Working closely with the Data Engineering Data Science Analytics and Enterprise Systems teams the Data Product Owner both makes use of and provides ongoing recommendations for improving the companys platform components for data collection aggregation processing storage and visualization. The position serves as an internal thought leader for decisionmaking around the campus business serving as subject matter expert for senior management operational leaders and the Technology team.

Candidates should have experience leading analytics initiatives sustaining missioncritical reporting and insights delivery. They should be very comfortable providing insights to business leaders using descriptive diagnostic and predictive analytics. They should demonstrate a rigorous scientific approach using experimental methods to test hypotheses across multiple data sets using peerreviewed statistical methods to ensure optimal business performance. Above all else they should be a servant leader who understands their primary role to be supporting and enabling their team by maintaining a healthy supportive culture.

Position Responsibilities:

• Foster a usercentric product mindset among the Campus Data Team members.

• Develop and maintain increasing awareness of the business context and dynamics surrounding each of the companys business units their products and services the data they generate and the relationships between them.

• Partner with leadership across Marketing Sales Operations Customer Experience Product and Technology to solicit business requirements and prioritize analytics delivery

• Define scope plan and schedule data and analytics initiatives and dependencies in collaboration with analysts data engineers and data scientists.

• Lead and/or coordinate with data analysts data engineers and database administrators from the initial discovery and design stages of new initiatives all the way through implementation and operationalization

• Ensure strong crossfunctional communication and collaboration between business partners analysts and the data engineering team.

• Partner with other team members to identify and address limitations in data sources data quality tooling or performance bottlenecks in analytics delivery.

• Use data processing querying and analysis tools to answer business questions and provide actionable insights.

• Use visualization tools to communicate stories with data creating reporting dashboards KPI monitoring and selfservice tools to make data and insights available for stakeholders.

• Seek opportunities to perform data pioneering for identifying new opportunities for analysis and insight generation while maintaining focus on reusability across domains.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

• 5 years data analytics experience in a fastpaced commercial or scientific setting.

• Thrivescrossfunctionally in situations requiring collaboration negotiation and communication of complex analyses to nontechnical or senior management audiences.

• Exposure to Agile Development or the Scrum project management methodology a plus.

• Strong data process definition and refinement skills with an instinctive understanding for identifying areas of opportunity or challenge and methods for providing a clear analysis.

• Handson experience building custom visualizations in Tableau.

• Advanced experience with Excel.

• Experience with modern data warehouse tools like Snowflake.

• Excellent visual verbal and textual communication and presentation skills extremely strong skills for using data to tell stories especially counterintuitive or controversial ones.

• Highly selfmotivated selfdirected resourceful and autonomous; capable of managing multiple simultaneous deliverables with proactive status updates and requests for support.
