Yales Departments of African American Studies Political Science Psychology and Sociology invite applicants for multiple positions at the assistant professor level beginning July 2025. These positions are part of a cluster hire in African American Studies and the social sciences. The goal is to deepen empirical scholarship of Black experiencesgrowing the community at Yale necessary for such scholarship in the process. Applicants research should fit within one or both of two broad subfields: 1 Racial Attitudes and Political Participation (e.g. estimating the role of prejudice in politics topics in sexuality and gender identity race and attitudes towards climate justice and/or other relevant subspecializations) and 2 Race Systems and Institutions (e.g. the intersections of race and class race and artificial intelligence race relations in specific domains such as education child welfare public administration and/or other relevant subspecializations). All applicants will be jointly appointed with African American Studies and either Political Science Psychology or Sociology and each successful applicant will work with their hiring departments to construct a mentorship plan designed to optimize the applicants ability to navigate the resources of two departments on their path towards promotion. Candidates will be expected to teach courses whose content falls within one or both general areas of research listed above.
