Overview: Performs the set ups of upsetters and troubleshoots and maintains upsetters for optimal productivity. Drives productivity and quality improvements by documenting production setups evaluating performance of tooling related part conveyance and overall efficiency of process.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Forge product to customer specifications and tolerances.
- Set up troubleshoot adjust and operate: Automatic Upsetter Furnace or Heater Crane and Conveyor.
- Provide direction to the Utility Operator and Assistant Operator (i.e. pulling and setting tooling cleaning on and around machine part and heat information concerning the checking and logging of part information.
- Use hand and pneumatic tools.
- Measure material for conformance specifications with the use of: Tape Measure Dial Indicators Length Gage Scale/Rule Roll Stand and Micrometers.
- Complete forms to document the Quality Standards the work performed and the material sped using the appropriate forms.
- Make corrections to setup sheets when changes are made to existing part setup.
- Report any problems (mechanical or safety) to forging manager via text or email.
- Clean work area machines tools and equipment.
- Follow all safety rules as well as the companys plant rules and regulations.
- Perform inventory throughout the forge department (tools pusher spacers heater bars upsetter shims shear blades and shear shims).
- Perform all other duties assigned by the forge manager.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
No direct supervisory responsibilities provide direction and assistance as needed.
Education and/or Experience:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and a minimum of five years experience.

Communication Skills:
- Ability to effectively report relevant data and job specific information as needed
- Ability to provide detailed descriptions through written and verbal communication work and machine conditions and status
- Ability to work independently and within a team with supervision as required.
Mathematical Skills:
- Ability to add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Computer Skills:
- To perform this job successfully an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software.
Physical Demands:
- Stand walk push pull squat bend and reach during shifts
- Use carts dollies cranes and jacks to transport material if needed
- Must be able to regularly lift and or move up to 40 lbs.
- Climbing ladders and stairs to reach work at potential heights of 30 ft or more
- Navigate narrow walkways confined spaces and overhead mezzanines
- Tolerate potentially extreme temperature fluctuations impacted by weather and machinery
- Acclimate to high noise and vibration levels in workspaces
- Wear and adhere to all PPE guidelines including hard hats protective eye wear ear plugs and approved footwear with metatarsal and steel toe safeguards.
- Comfortable working in confined work environments
Work Environment:
The Forge Technical Lead interact with historic machinery throughout the facility which often involves proximity to heat noise debris conveyance systems and other potentially dangerous equipment. The Forge Technical will encounter high levels of floor and overhead traffic due to material transportation throughout the facility which can cause high levels of vibration and airborne disturbances. There are areas of paved and unpaved walkways active shipping lanes and occasionally standing water to be cautious of.
