Internship Overview:
Underthe direction of a Pharmacist the Pharmacy Intern will gain hands onexperience at Sweetgrass Pharmacy in both the retail and compounding areas ofthe business. The Intern will learnabout the different aspects of the pharmacy industry including customerservice inventory management and cashiering. They will also learn about thedifferent aspects of the job including filling prescriptions preparingmedications and maintaining the pharmacy. The intern is a student who isearning their Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D. at a college or universityregistered in the state of South Carolina. This internship is expected to start in the Fall of 2025.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Providing customer service by answering phonecalls responding to emails and resolving customer issues
- Maintaining inventory of medications andsupplies in the pharmacy
- Performing operational tasks such as stockingshelves organizing inventory and labeling medications
- Preparing medications for patients by countingtablets measuring ingredients mixing solutions or other tasks as directed bya pharmacist
- Learning about new that are beingdeveloped or old that have been discontinued or changed
- Train and learn on how to make compoundingbatches in nonsterile lab.
- Performing clerical duties such as filingpatient records and processing insurance claims
- Observing interactions between patients andpharmacists to ensure that medication instructions are followed correctly
- Cleaning and sterilizing equipment used indispensing such as inhalers or syringes
- Communicating with physicians to clarifyprescription orders or to obtain approval for new medications
- Other Duties As Assigned.
Education and Experience:
- Must be enrolled in a Pharm.D. program
- Must have a Pharmacy Intern License from theSC Board of Pharmacy
- Customer Service Experience a plus
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Pleasant demeanor and ability to handle avariety of customer service issues
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time
- Ability to lift 40 lbs
- Must be collaborative and able to perform aspart of a team
- Ability to take direction.
- Knowledge of applicable pharmacy software(s) aplus.
- Ability to work a cash register.
- Ability to read write and perform simplemath.
- Limited exposure to potentially hazardoussubstances
