Position Summary
Department Information: The Department of Chemistry consists of a wellrounded research community with cuttingedge expertise in a wide variety of modern disciplines including analytical chemistry organic chemistry inorganic chemistry physical chemistry materials chemistry and biochemistry. The IU Molecular Structure Center IUMSC is part of the Chemistry Department and provides stateoftheart service and research crystallography to Indiana University faculty. Services include routine and nonroutine smallmolecule singlecrystal Xray structure determination and Xray powder diffraction analysis as well as specialized researcherdesigned diffraction experiments. The IUMSC offers crystallography classes to students and enables researchers to carry out their own experiments. The center also develops information technology tools for remote instrument access fast data dissemination and shared data access. The IUMSC has a significant outreach component and is dedicated to improving scientific literacy of the general public. The IUMSC has an open position for a postdoctoral fellow in the area of chemical crystallography with experience in single crystal small molecule crystallography and powder diffraction. The successful candidate is expected to collaborate with faculty and students in all aspects of crystallographic analysis including data collection and interpretation solution refinement preparation of manuscripts as well as user support and training and technical consultation. Experience with routine instrument maintenance and repair is expected. Knowledge in computing information technology programming as well as teaching and grant writing experience are desirable.
