Position Summary
The Department of Chemistry consists of a well-rounded interdisciplinary research community with cutting-edge expertise in a wide variety of modern disciplines including materials chemistry analytical chemistry organic chemistry inorganic chemistry physical chemistry and biochemistry. Our department is in the top in the US with our analytical chemistry program often ranked in the top 10 as well as particular strengths in materials including for example the groups of Sara Skrabalak and Xingchen Ye in experiment as well as the new Georgescu group in computational materials: Our facilities used in theory are state of the art including our Top 300 computer cluster Big Red 200 in addition to other clusters with specialized configurations. Our department has also recently received a state-of-the-art NeoArm JEOL microscope. One reason why I personally joined IUB as faculty is that the graduate program does feel in a way quite small and tight-knit while actually being quite large. The Georgescu Computational and Theoretical Materials Group at Indiana University is searching for postdoctoral fellows with experience in density functional theory calculations in solids (i.e. use of codes such as Quantum Espresso and/or VASP ) to work on correlated electron quantum materials. This will include performing calculations and building models for novel materials including nickelate superconductors Kagome materials 2D magnets and many others. The candidate will ideally also co-mentor undergraduate and graduate students in the group and be effective in collaboration with a wide variety of experimental groups both at IU as well as in other departments across the US and the world. Postdocs will have the opportunity to build a new multidisciplinary group. News about the group: as well as our most recent papers at: .
