Position Description
POSITION TITLE: Teacher Aide Early Childhood Classroom Assistant Teacher (ECCAT)
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High School graduate or GED and pass state qualifying test.
2. Immediately enroll in the ECCAT program and complete required course work.
Any current ECCAT who is permanent as of 7/1/2023 and who wishes to serve in grade 13 classrooms as outlined in HB 3035 will need to complete additional WVDE or county approved inperson or online training in the science of reading numeracy and appropriate measures for exercising authority and control over students within two calendar years of moving to grade 13 classroom (Two Courses). Upon successful completion of the coursework curent ECCATS will receive an endorsement to serve in PKGrade 3 classrooms.
Newly hired ECCATS or those who hold temporary authorization will complete the current WVDE or county approved ECCAT inperson or online coursework in conjunction with additional coursework/training in the science of reading numeracy and appropriate measures for exercising authority and control over students within three calendar years of the hiring date (Four Courses). Their licensure will reflect a PK Grade 3 endorsement.
3. Hold or qualify for ECCAT Authorization.
4. Experience with handicapped children preferred.
5. First aid training preferred.
6. Become a supervisory aide. (Annually)
REPORTS TO: Principal and Supervising Teacher
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. To work with individual or small groups of children to reinforce learning material and skills planned by teacher.
2. Keep all data and family information confidential.
3. To monitor individual activities learning centers etc. assigned by teacher.
4. To assist the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing learning based on individual needs interests and abilities as planned by the teacher.
5. To help children utilize equipment and/or instructional materials assigned by the teacher.
6. To assist students with lunch snacks physical needs cleanup/washup toilet routine occupational therapy physical therapy and operates specialized equipment (i.e.catherization) under direction of teacher and/or health care professional.
7. To assist with the supervision of children during playground periods and field trips.
8. To assist the teacher in preparation of activities on an ongoing basis.
9. To assist with any other responsibilities deemed necessary by the teacher for the successful operation of the program.
10. Ability to relate to and work with others.
11. Ability to organize and manage time.
