Job Description
Harlem Childrens Zone (HCZ) is a worldrenowned nonprofit that is breaking the cycle of generational poverty for more than 22500 children (about the seating capacity of Madison Square Garden) and adults in Central Harlem and millions more across the nation. HCZ walks together with young people and their families from cradletocollegethrough career. From our work with public school students and our Promise Academy charter schools to our Healthy Harlem wellness initiative to our family support programsHCZ goes beyond education to provide children with the academic personal and career support they need to stay on the path to becoming selfsustaining successful adults. Called by President Obama one of the most successful antipoverty programs in history we are sharing what we have learned with communities around the country and the world inspiring widespread replication and changing the lives of millions beyond Harlem.
ThreeYearOld Journey https://hcz/ourprograms/threeyearoldjourney/ is a 12week workshop series hosted on Saturdays for HCZ Promise Academy Charter Schools lottery winners community members parents and caregivers of children three years old. The primary goal is to learn grow and nurture friendships in the leadup to their admission to the school. Participants explore developmental milestones discipline techniques and developmentally appropriate activities to foster early literacy and math skills
Minimum Qualifications
- A bachelors degree in special early childhood development with at least two years of teaching experience.
- New York State Certification Early Childhood or K12
Who you are
- Excellent communication and detailoriented
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word Excel PowerPoint) Zoom and Outlook)
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple timesensitive tasks independently
- Experience working with parent and community groups
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate with sensitivity tact and professionalism
- Open to working with a diverse population of families parents/caregivers and children within the community
- Bachelors degree in special education
- Minimum of 1 year working with children with special needs
- Teachers license
- Interpersonal skills using tact patience and courtesy.
What youll do
- Design and implement a structured intervention program for the TYOJ participants.
- Identifies and assess a childs unique needs based on observation and analyzing standardize test (Brigance)
- Collaborates with parents and relevant persons to create and implement individualized learning plans
- Maintains and analyzes each students behavioral records
- Reviews monitors and meets timelines for IEPs referrals initial eligibilities and reevaluations
- Performs consultations with relevant parties to address childs special educational behavioral and social needs
- Manage student intervention caseloads.
- Participate in IEP meetings and IEP development; write goals and objectives for students entering the program
- Facilitate curriculum design for TYOJ participants
- Observe tutoring sessions and meet with staff and parent to provide feedback
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Schedule
- Saturday: 8 AM 4 PM (Mandatory)
- A oneday remote planning session is required from 5 PM 7 PM via Zoom. This planning session can be scheduled any day between Tuesday and Friday depending on the entire teams availability.
