Opening in 2004 Dr. Robert Thompson opened his first clinic in Forked River NJ employing himself and two other staff members. We are currently looking for a Nurse Practitioner to join our team. Duties for this position will include but are not limited to:
Position Skills Required:
Masters degree in nursing required Family Nurse Practitioner/Adult Gerontology Nurse Practitioner
NP certification (AANP or ANCC)
Registered professional nurse with current NJ state license CDS and DEA license
CPR Certification
(X) years of work experience as a professional nurse
IV Certification
Training Required:
Continued Education Courses
Computer Skills Required:Scheduling software Google Platform ADP Platform
Patient Care Responsibilities:
To perform initial history and physical examination as well as problem identification of each patient
When possible initial evaluation should be done collaboratively with Chiropractors to avoid a repetition and increase speed of service. This allows for each discipline to be on the same page when initiating patient care/treatment plan
Assess range of motion weakness and distal pulses of affected areas
Palpate for trigger points/tenderness of different muscle groups involved in area of discomfort
Document positive/negative orthopedic tests used for appropriate areas of complaint
Orders appropriate prescriptions/diagnostic studies including bloodwork and imaging (XRay MRI Ultrasound ect) when necessary
Review and correctly interpret test results to diagnose health problems
Based on results/if necessary refer to different available services (Acupuncture PT/OT pain management MD outside referral or Orthopedic)
Referrals do not have to be done solely after imaging. It may be warranted and necessary to initiate referrals to other services prior to receiving imaging to further decrease pain and increase range of motion
Write prescriptions for referrals to other services when appropriate
Ensure appropriate followup evaluation for these patients evaluating for improvement in pain range of motion weakness ect. And writing new scripts when necessary to continue care
Consider secondary referral to secondary service (dependent on patients condition)
Prescribe initiate and educate patients on durable medical equipment when applicable
Consider support bracing (i.e.: TLSO/LSO posture brace SI joint brace knee/ankle brace orthotics ect. on initial evaluation. Provide early helps to aid in pain relief as well as offer support and reeducation to muscles that may be lax and causing pain
At subsequent visits consider TENS when appropriate. Introduction to stimulation always helps patients to minimize discomfort throughout the day and serves as a noninvasive at home therapy tool to decrease pain
Advise patients of the importance of changing pads to avoid irritation to skin from frequent use of same pads and help maintain good conductivity between unit and stimulation pads. Advise patients that they will receive annual stim pads at 1month after initiation of TENS unit.
Perform trigger point/joint injections as well as other minimally invasive procedures (intravenous nutrition therapy PRP)
Ensure follow up documentation on new pain score length of time of pain relief and improvement in range of motion after each procedure
Each patient considering IV nutrition therapy should be fully evaluated by a Nurse Practitioner prior to administration to ensure no comorbid conditions/medications that restrict the patient from receiving IV nutrition
Knowledge of and the ability to perform therapeutic strapping as it relates to major body regions (ie: low back cervical/thoracic junction knee shoulder hip ect. to help decrease pain and inflammation by improving circulation help accelerate recovery and provide stabilization to affected areas
Knowledge of different therapy tools used within the office including but not limited to decompression stim/vaso rapid release normatec ect. and how these therapies can benefit each patient
Patient education on preventive care therapeutic stretches and strengthening exercises targeted to areas of discomfort
Provide aftercare/ongoing care to patients to ensure proper response to treatment adherence to treatment plan and adjust plan of care as needed
Brief 10 minute followups should be done biweekly on active patients (patients that are seen 23 timea a week seeing multiple services)
Patients on maintenance (being seen once weekly every other week monthly ect. should be followed up monthly.
Ensure proper accurate and complete documentation and maintenance of patient records.
Patient records should be kept up to date including test results imaging changes to medical history medication surgical history and changes in condition
Ensure appropriate billing for services rendered by Nurse Practitioners
Professionalism
Follows ethical principles and proper procedure regarding patient confidentiality informed consent to treatment and managing unexpected adverse outcomes
Demonstrates highest level of accountability for professional practice
Participates in daily morning/afternoon team meetings continuing education and departmental
