QUALIFICATIONS:

1.Masters degree or doctorate in biostatistics epidemiology economics or related field.

2.Expertise in observational research design.

3.Expertise in management statistical analysis and developing tables and figures of large datasets.

4.Familiarity and previous work with healthcare administrative data e.g. ICD9 codes is required. Medicare data is a plus but not required.

5.Expertise in univariate bivariate and complex multivariate analyses (e.g. multilevel multivariate modeling) following plan developed by PI.

6.Expertise in writing research plans for grants and manuscripts

SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

1.Excellent oral and written communication skills.

2.Experience and ability to manipulate clean and recode large datasets in statistical software.SAS required Stata and/or R a plus.

3.Expertise summarizing data in tables and figures using statistical software.

4.Ability to independently implement an analysis plan using SAS Stata and other analytic software packages as needed. Run univariate and bivariate descriptive analyses. Perform complex multivariate analyses (e.g. multilevel multivariate modeling).

5.Familiarity with observational research methods common to health services epidemiology and economics including controlled analyses of retrospective data (e.g. regression mixed models instrumental variables propensity scores).

6.Familiarity and previous work with healthcare administrative data e.g. ICD9 codes is required. Medicare data is a plus but not required.

7.Knowledge of medical terminology a plus but not required.

8.Interpersonal skills (e.g. ability to work with several investigators and work in teams) and project management skills (e.g. ability to work independently to prioritize a variety of tasks and careful attention to detail.

GENERAL SUMMARY/OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

We seek a curious and innovative quantitative analyst to work with physician researchers in the Department of Emergency Medicines Division of Health Policy at Brigham and Womens Hospital. He or she will report to the Division Chief and work with investigators to plan conduct and analyze health services and clinical studies. The majority of projects involve analysis of observational data. The primary responsibilities are methodological project development data cleaning and coding data analysis summarization of data in tables and figures and writing research methods. Familiarity with SAS is a must knowledge of other programs including Stata or R are useful. The research group is involved in multiple projects investigating the intersection of emergency medical care and health policy. For example current projects at this time include: 1 evaluating the cost and quality of emergency care using hospital discharge data 2 identifying hospital specific patterns of utilization of emergency department and hospital services for chest pain and other frequent emergency medical conditions and 3 studies of opioid prescribing and 4 studies of freestanding emergency departments. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.Work with principal investigators (PIs) to develop and implement analysis plan for research projects.

2.Perform all programming and coding to prepare data sets for analysis: import data sets to SAS code variables develop labels and formats and clean data.

3.Implement analysis plan using SAS and other analytic software packages as needed. Run univariate and bivariate descriptive analyses. Perform advanced multivariate analyses (e.g. multilevel multivariate modeling).

4.Summarization of data in tables and figures.

5.Write descriptions of analytic approach for use in grants manuscript methods sections and other project documentation as needed.

6.Assist investigators with manuscript and grant preparation specifically drafting methods sections and serving as a coauthor when appropriate.
