Job Description

The Interventional Technologist reports to and functions under the general supervision of the Unit Technical Manager. Receives direct supervision during procedures from physicians and senior technical staff. Performs diagnostic radiographic procedures with the utmost concern for the patients comfort and safety.
Operates complex diagnostic and interventional radiographic equipment. In doing so ensures the patient is properly positioned and immobilized. Selects proper imaging factors and uses independent judgement ingenuity and initiative under pressure in a variety of situations when performing patient examinations. Utilizes and initiates fluoroscopy for the purposes of positioning during invasive procedures.
Maintains aseptic conditions preparing patients for procedures and participating in cases.
Use appropriate protection from all hazardous materials (bloodborne pathogens radiation etc. as stated by unit policy and hospital authorization.
Assists physicians as necessary during the exam i.e. Positioning table/carm
Scrubbing in as a second operator to assist the primary physician including catheter/wire management administration of contrast and assisting the physician to expedite the case and improve the quality of care. These practices adopted by the ASRT House of Delegates (Resolution 993.03 1999
Calibrate and verify operation of all equipment to be used during the day and to notify appropriate personnel of equipment malfunctions and repairs.
Delivers patient care under scope of license/training.
Maintain inventory tracking utilization and replenishment through the divisions Inventory management software.
Remain up to date on the latest developments and trends in imaging techniques procedures and equipment by readings conference teachings and seminars.
Participate in educational programs and meet state and national requirements for continuing education credits
Oversee and instruct various personnel and technology students within the department
Maintains testing area in an orderly manner prepares equipment and stocks room supplies for daily use.
Participates in a rotating oncall schedule for evening weekend and holiday coverage.
Maintain professional effective and constructive working relations and communication with departmental staff hospital personnel.
Work habits and job performance must meet department standards.

Knowledge of computer applications and digital technology

Knowledge of anatomy crosssectional anatomy physiology and medical terminology.

Knowledge of the principles of radiation physics and radiographic chemistry.

Knowledge of radiographic positioning and radiographic equipment. I.e. generators

xray tubes collimators.

Knowledge of universal precautions.

Knowledge of catheters guidewires and puncture needles.

Knowledge of various contrast agents.

Knowledge of proper radiation safety/protection procedures.

Knowledge of aseptic technique for patient prep procedures.

Computer skills and ability to interface with department computer systems i.e. Inventory Management software scheduling and completion of cases as well as image networking/review through PACS.

Ability to safely lift and transport patients.

Ability to scrub in and assist as a second operator.

Ability to effectively communicate to technologists physicians nurses support staff patients and administration.

Attention to detail.

Ability to provide compassionate care to patients and their families.

Ability to function actively and appropriately during an emergency/code situation.




Requirements:

Graduate of AMA approved program in Radiologic Technology; ARRT Mass. State License and BLS required
