Job Description

1. Bachelors degree in instructional systems design teaching communications computer software or related field or equivalent work experience.
2. 5 years experience in an Information Systems/Training capacity as an instructor and in developing content.
3. Demonstrated training expertise in the application of technology project management and business skills.
4. Expertise with MS Office authoring tools and a Learning Management System (LMS). Familiarity with MS Project and Livelink.

General Summary/Overview
This position reports to the Corporate Manager Project Management and Planning Partners HealthCare Information Systems (IS) DanaFarber Cancer Institute (DFCI). The training and development specialist provides strategic oversight to educational needs within both the IS DFCI department and the cancer institute in areas impacted by and benefitting from IS systems and services. S/he will serve as a subject matter expert and institutional resource for training course development and delivery and will provide consultative guidance to both IS staff and DFCI business users. The incumbent will help ensure staff members receive appropriate and effective training so they may fulfill their job responsibilities. This position will consult with other resources to implement and manage learning programs that bridge gaps in employee performance.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

1. Establishes relationships with DFCI leaders to understand learning needs and update programs and courses to meet their evolving training requirements. Regularly communicates activities with these leaders.

2. Oversees the work assignments of other training staff administrators and support personnel in assisting with training registrations materials logistics and other duties as needed.

3. Administers enterprise training programs such as Projects in Practice and DFCI Project University including nominations registrations curriculum instructors schedules communications success metrics and continuous improvement.

4. Works with Corporate Manager to help establish an overall training strategy for the IS department for project management training technology education across the institute and professional development for staff.

5. Identifies and manages risks in both new and established training initiatives.

6. Networks with key resources at DFCI and PHS to ensure quality of training and to keep current with the latest policies and practices. Participates on special projects as requested.

7. Mentors IS project staff and business users in training planning and development. Meets with users regularly to review goals directives and operations. Facilitates discussions surrounding training implications and organizational impact to assist in planning and coordinating training.

8. Leads change efforts by developing standardized project management and training processes and templates. Assists with communication marketing and training strategies for supporting the methodology.

9. Develops and conducts trainthetrainer sessions to teach IS staff and business users how to create training materials and to teach training best practices for instructorled classes and elearning. Maintains a training toolkit.

10. Builds creative elearning and instructorled courses for departmental and enterprise solutions as a member of key project teams. Assists Human Resources Organization Development and Learning Services team in creating standardized elearning interface at DFCI.

11. Serves as LMS technology expert to assist DFCI in facilitating the use of online training tools and tracking mechanisms. Evaluates training technology. Recommends the most appropriate and costeffective training systems.

12. Provides technical assistance on trained systems and concepts. Assesses performance to present feedback to project staff. Serves as an educational consultant to employees to improve performance using knowledge of overall training plan trainer competencies and adult learning theory.

13. Researches and keeps current on trends and needs as they relate to DFCI technology and supporting business processes. Regularly collects information on the current status and direction of the institute and works with the Corporate Manager to interpret that into actionable training initiatives that refresh develop and acquire training content. Develops and maintains a blended training curriculum that supports the training strategy.

14. Meets with project managers after a project has closed to evaluate training effectiveness by reviewing predetermined success measures evaluating lessons learned and strategizing future training.

15. Implements and evaluates the effectiveness of enduser training programs using metrics. Measures performance of training contractors and internal trainers and the quality of printed courseware online documentation CBT software and other relevant supplies. May evaluate and recommend training to be delivered by corporate training firms to augment DFCIdelivered training.
