The Opportunity

WSDOT is currently seeking a skilled Transportation Engineer 4 to serve as the Maintenance Special Projects Engineer in Wenatchee WA. This position helps keep people and business moving by coordinating designing and administering maintenance and small work contracts to improve and preserve the regional highway system. This position also helps return highways to operation after disasters by coordinating response activities designing and documenting needed work and tracking repair costs. This position requires a thorough knowledge of WSDOT policy as it relates to technical issues of highway design and operations project administration and legal requirements. This is the region technical program specialist for minor enhancement projects; and maintenance and developer improvements to the highway system.


What to Expect

Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role the Maintenance Special Projects Engineer will:

  • Work with maintenance and engineering when disasters damage regional roadways to secure the area.
  • Assist with return of the highway to full operation by preparation of plans specifications & estimates for either state forces or contract work.
  • Help ensure that emergency rules documentation and budget tracking requirements are met.
  • Mentor others on the processes and monitor their work providing input analysis critique detailed review and concurrence to ensure that policies standards and legal requirements are met.
  • Schedule prioritize and accomplish work in a highspeed environment.
  • Perform field reviews and surveys. Inspect and complete documentation for contract administration.



Qualifications

To be considered for this opportunity the following are required:

  • High School graduation or equivalent.
  • Valid Drivers License.
  • Progressive experience and responsibilities in engineering documentation and contract inspection at WSDOT or equivalent experience.
  • Experience using the WSDOT design manual standard plans and standard specifications.
  • Experience completing plans specifications and estimates (PS&Es) on highway construction projects.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and use good judgement when balancing the priorities between them.


It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:

  • Understanding of surveying equipment practices and standards.
  • Knowledge of ad and award procedures for region level advertisements for both small works and maintenance contracts.
  • Knowledge and experience with FHWA emergency rules and documentation requirements.
  • Knowledge of WSDOTs Maintenance Program policies procedures capabilities budgets and needs.
  • Understanding of state purchasing rules and WEBS procurement processes.
  • Experience using CADD.
  • 2year degree or higher in a related field of surveying engineering or construction management.
