The Admitting and Registration Department is looking to hire a qualified candidate to fill a Financial Services Counselor (FSC) position. The FSC greets and interviews patients and families seeking financial assistance in a manner that contributes to a customerservice oriented patientcentered healthcare environment. The FSC is responsible for the indepth and detailed evaluation of patient demographic and financial history for both uninsured and underinsured patients for the purpose of determining eligibility for health carerelated public benefits programs. The FSC assists patients in updating demographic and financial information in the hospital system (Epic) and also with questions regarding billing issues. The FSC works collaboratively with hospital staff and state workers to ensure patients healthcare coverage and hospital reimbursement. Reviews daily reports of patients with upcoming outpatient procedures and admissions Register patients by obtaining verifying and recording personal demographic and financial information in a sensitive and timely manner Verifies patient insurance coverage with thirdparty payers Performs financial assessments to determine eligibility for Medicaid Health Safety Net CommonwealthConnectorcare MedicareD and other statesponsored and federal programs and private insurances Initiates coordinates and monitors patient applications to state and federal insurance programs Builds relationships with internal and external groups such as Case Managers Social Workers and MassHealth Agency Representatives in order to resolve patient issues including access billing and discharge barriers Answers help line inquiries about public benefits and other insurance programs and billing issues Attends all required meetings Complete any additional tasks/responsibilities as assigned by Leadership Team Shift is Monday Friday 830am 5pm Associates Degree or Bachelors degreepreferred(preferably in business health care administration social work or related discipline) or equivalent work experience Prior experience in a customer service related role preferably Prior knowledge/working experience on statesponsored programs a plus Prior experience in hospital registration and billing systems a plus Knowledge of medical terminology a plus Requires a high level of accuracy and attention to detail Ability to work in a fastpaced environment Capable of analyzing situations and making decisions under pressure and tight deadlines Ability to multitask and prioritize Energetic team player Exceptional customer service skills Ability to interact and communicate effectively and in a sensitive manner with patients and hospital staff Exceptional oral and written communication skills Typing skills 30 wpm required Working knowledge of Windowsbased applications such as Outlook Word and Excel Although not required bilingual in English and another language a plus Office setting Requires light physical effort on a regular basis as in frequent sitting standing walking bending or reaching Heavy use of computer and webbased applications Minimal local travel Massachusetts General Hospital is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
