POSITION SUMMARY Under the direction of the Social Services Director the incumbent performs professional social service work including case management of NHBP Indian child welfare juvenile justice elder and vulnerable adult cases wraparound like supportive services emergency assistance home visits advocacy and facilitates linkages to other services as necessary. This position requires frequent travel throughout the service area. Additional travel outside of the service area may also be required. They are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties responsibilities and skills required of personnel so classified. - Interviews clients family members and other interested parties to assess needs for social services; gathers and evaluates information regarding employment history housing situation physical functioning financial status capacity for independent living and availability of domestic services; evaluates clients concerns and observes behavior.
- Collaborates with client family members and other professionals to develop service plan and to monitor progress.
- Establish and maintain case files; prepares narrative and statistical reports documents correspondence regarding client status; documents case files; prepares and serves legal documents.
- Manages assigned caseload; related appointments home visits paperwork transportation etc.
- Counsels clients on available resources barriers to employment independent living skills and other areas involving defined problems or concerns; explains procedures rights and responsibilities.
- Helps clients to modify attitudes and patterns of behavior by increasing understanding of the nature and source of personal problems and by identifying and building on personal strengths.
- Refers client to community resources and other organizations as indicated; may determine or assist in determining eligibility.
- Assists clients in identifying and obtaining basic services needed for independent living; identifies and makes referrals to a variety of public and community agencies providing food shelter clothing medical educational and other services; schedules client appointments; acts as client advocate in obtaining services.
- Manages cases related reports and testimony as required by NHBP or State Courts.
- Handles Indian Child Welfare cases in conjunction with legal counsel.
- Assists as liaison in investigation of reports of child elder vulnerable adult abuse neglect and/or exploitation; assess the degree of immediate risk to the child/adult and takes necessary action to minimize the risk; coordinates activity with other involved parties including relatives school personnel officers of the court State and private agency workers assigned to the case etc.
- Advocates on behalf of clients to secure needed services and financial entitlements.
- Develops and facilitates educational and/or support groups as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS An applicants education training and experience must be sufficient to demonstrate that the applicant possesses the ability to successfully perform each of the essential functions. The requirements listed below are generally representative of the education experience and skills and/or ability required to enable one to successfully perform the essential functions associated with his position: - Masters degree in a human services field such as social work mental health counseling psychology substance abuse etc.
- Must be professionally licensed in degreed field and in good standing in the State of Michigan Limited licenses must be able to achieve fully licensure within twelve months from date of hire or promotion into the position.
- Three years experience in case management.
- Ability to understand gain knowledge and appreciate the differences with the Native American culture and customs.
- Valid Michigan drivers license with good drive record; GSA certifiable.
- Must be able to travel.
- Must be able to successfully pass a background check; must not have been found guilty of or pled guilty or no contest to any felony or misdemeanor offense under federal state or tribal law involving crimes of violence sexual molestation prostitution or other crimes against persons or offenses committed against children; must be able to successfully pass a drug screening.
- Ability to become CPR/First Aid certified as soon as the training becomes available.
- Computer proficiency including email and internet word processing and spreadsheets and knowledge of the other office equipment.
- Proven organizational and timemanagement skills; selfstarter and selfdirected; effective communication skills both verbal and written.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality including a demonstrated understanding and application of HIPAA.
- Strong ability to organize and maintain electronic and physical files.

PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS - Licensed Master Social Worker in good standing in the State of Michigan.
- Five years experience working within child welfare.
- Experience working with or with Tribal Governments; or within Native American Institutions.
- Familiarity with community resources.
- Experience working with individuals with substance use disorders.
- Knowledge of ICWA MIFPA and BIA regulations and requirements.
