Job Description

THIS JOB POSTING IS FOR RETIRED SWORN POLICE AND SHERIFF EMPLOYEES ONLY!

Regular Schedule: 20 hours per week A NonMerit vacancy exists in the Sheriffs Office.

NonMerit positions are not classified within the Baltimore County Government Classification and Compensation Plan.

**THIS POSITION IS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR BALTIMORE COUNTY GOVERNMENT BENEFITS

A list of eligible applicants will be established based on the examination as outlined below.

Applicants are advised to apply promptly. CURRENT AND FUTURE VACANCIES OCCURRING IN ANY OFFICE OR DEPARTMENT OF BALTIMORE COUNTY GENERAL GOVERNMENT MAY BE FILLED FROM THE LIST OF ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS.

List all promotions and changes in job duties due to reclassification as separate work experiences on your application. Applicants must include the dates of the promotions and reclassifications.

You MUST meet the following requirements before you can be hired in the above classification:

  1. 1. Must be a retired sworn Police Sheriff employee and/or have separated in good standing;
  2. 2. Have at least two 2 years experience as a Police Officer or Deputy Sheriff;
  3. 3. Must have current MPCTC certification or have been previously MPCTC certified
  4. 4. Have a high school diploma GED or an appropriate equivalent;
  5. 5. Be at least 21 years of age at the time you submit your application;
  6. 6. Must be a citizen of the United States;
  7. 7. All applicants must be of good moral character and emotionally stable as determined by a background investigation and drug test.

Examples of Duties

Under close supervision performs a variety of investigative and regulatory functions as well as some administrative duties in support of sheriff operations and related services.

  • Interacts with the general public states attorneys office assistant states attorneys office personnel court judges court personnel other jurisdiction uniformed/plain clothes and civilian staff.
  • Operates radio telephone and other communications devices.
  • Provides security by screening and controlling access of persons entering the circuit court for baltimore county.
  • Maintains peace and security of the courts the courts building complex and judicial employees.
  • Answers general employment inquiries consults and advises potential applicants.

Examples of Other Duties
Maintains vehicles. Participates in public relations duties by speaking to school civic and other groups regarding functions of the Sheriffs Office. May perform clerical duties. Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Possession of a high school diploma or appropriate equivalent PLUS be a former sworn police or sheriff office employee.

Must have current MPCTC certification or have been previously MPCTC certified.

Licenses and Certifications
Possession of a valid drivers license equivalent to a noncommercial Class C Maryland drivers license is required at the time of appointment.

Must have current MPCTC certification or have been previously MPCTC certified.

Proof of Degree Equivalency
Applicants who have obtained a degree from outside the United States of America are required to submit degree equivalence documentation from World Education Services Inc.
