Job Description

Anticipated Opening 202526 School Year

Occupational Therapist

To provide highquality services assessments and consultation across the district in collaboration with buildingbased and district staff.

  1. Participate as a member of the evaluation TEAM by performing assessments making recommendations through written reportsand by writing appropriate sections of students educational plans.
  1. Participation in individually assigned schools MTSS (student support) process to screen students and help determine shortterminterventions 612 weeks) and delivery of services.
  1. Serve as consultant to school personnel and parents sharing knowledge and information related to area of expertise as needed.
  1. Serve as a liaison between community providers e.g. medical personnel private therapists and school personnel as appropriate.
  1. Maintain communication with parents regarding student performance and progress as needed.
  1. Provide direct service for an assigned caseload as outlined on students educational plan. Written preparation for therapysessions may be requested by the Director.
  1. Maintain thorough and ongoing records of individual student performance and progress.
  1. Evaluate student progress on a regular basis.
  1. Work in a cooperative interdisciplinary team approach in planning and implementing student services.
  1. Assist in the selection of books equipment and other instructional materials.
  1. Develop and maintain a therapy environment conducive to effective learning within the limits of resources available. This includesthe implementation of appropriate systems of behavior management.

12.Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities.

13.Provides supervision to Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants as dictated by American Occupational Therapy Associationand conducts their yearly evaluation.

  1. Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules state and federal regulations.
  1. Attend and participate in faculty meetings as needed.
  1. Provide for his/her professional growth through an ongoing program of reading workshops seminars conferences and/oradvanced coursework at institutions of higher learning.
  1. Any and all other duties required to fulfill the responsibilities of a therapist of students with special needs.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary benefits and work year established by Agreement between the Regional School Committee and the WhitmanHanson Education Association.

EVALUATION

An Administrator of Special Education will evaluate performance.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Valid License to Practice as a Registered Occupational Therapist in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:

  1. Previous experience working in a school setting (min. 35 years)
  2. Experience working with all disability areas
  3. Experience in developing sensory diets and evaluating sensory needs
  4. BiLingual
