Job Description

The position of Substitute College & Career Readiness Coordinator supports BARTs college readiness programming most notably our goal of ensuring that 100 of students matriculate as fulltime college students in the fall after graduation from BART. The College & Career Readiness Coordinator will support these efforts through instruction and administrative responsibilities. This position will play an important role in guiding students academically logistically socially and emotionally through their final year of high school and into life beyond high school. In its scope of responsibility for student progress and wellbeing the position is part instructor and part advisor.The key responsibility of this position is to serve as the instructor for BARTs Senior Seminar course which is a capstone experience in our Collegiate Skills curriculum. Instructional focuses include deepening students understanding of self career exploration college admissions knowledge and strategy college financial aid literacy professionalism and successfully managing the transition from high school to college. While much of the curriculum is delivered through conventional rigorous instruction there are also addon lessons and activities specific to our BART senior experience that enhance the course making it somewhat more than a core academic experience. The Senior Seminar Teacher will work in tandem with BARTs College Office staff who will occasionally push in to support coursework and goals in order to deliver instruction. In addition to these instructional responsibilities the College & Career Readiness Coordinator will support student progress by serving in a limited guidance counselor capacity as outlined below. Responsibilities will be focused on managing student progress throughout high school to ensure that graduation requirements are met and support college advising outside of the classroom. EXPECTATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIESInstructionDeliver BARTs College Advising Curriculum through Senior Seminar ClassesInstruction: Teach 2 classes daily.Planning & Development (approximately 1/2 hour planning for every hour teaching): plan daily lessons and instruction; assess student work; maintain uptodate online gradebook; collaborate with team teachers on curriculum and assessment; participate in reflective practice and professional development.Discipline/Classroom Management: follow the schools prescribed discipline classroom management and classroom routines to ensure a consistent environment across the school for all students.Daily Team Meetings: At the start of each work day participate in regularly scheduled grade level and disciplinebased team meetings to identify students who may be struggling improve school culture work as a crossdisciplinary team to integrate curriculum and build/improve curriculum across grade levels.Student Meetings: Attend IEP 504 and other family meetings as needed.Advisory: serve as the advisor for approximately 1215 students; participate in community meetings. Facilitate advisory circles and other advisory activities.High School AdvisingCollege Counseling:Counselor recommendation letters for students applying to college (fall)Miniconferences 1520 min) every other week with each senior to refine the college application list (early fall)Coordinate with College Office staff to ensure students are registered for college entrance exams.Work with College Office staff to support student placement in dual enrollment courses.PortfolioWith Principal and 11/12 team oversee implementation of BARTs Portfolio practices in 12th grade.Support Gateway Portfolio preparation and implementation each spring.Serve as a member of Gateway Portfolio Panels. Field Trips and Special EventsCoordinate college campus field trip schedule and experience for all grade levels including overnight trips.Manage college field trip planning.As needed attend and lead college field trips.Coordinate cocurricular events connected to senior year progress including College Essay Review Mock Interviews and Senior Week.InternshipsDevelop and manage an internship program for seniors.Identifies organizations to host internsMaintain program materials to provide hosts and students.Monitor student participation and quality of placements through weekly logs and journals.Maintain relationships with site supervisors including supporting and coaching regarding mentoring students.Meet with students individually and in a group setting during the internship placement.Annual Expectations:Teacher Residency (August): Participate in training and professional development; refine curriculum scope and sequence; participate in preparing to address schoolwide annual goals.Instruction (Late August June): School year runs from the end of August until the middle/end of June following the local districts holiday schedule. Professional Development Days (monthly): Participate in full and halfday professional development activities.Observation 3060 minutes/month): Observe and/or participate in other teachers classes to learn and share new ideas.Best Practices Sharing: Support the school in developing and sharing best practices with the broader education community.
