FORREST CENTER PROFESSIONAL & TECHNICAL EDUCATION TEACHER

NATURE OF WORK:

This is a professional position to meet the instructional goals of the school and school system by delivering instructional programs effectively to ensure the highest levels of student achievement. This position requires specific knowledge and skills related to a Professional or Technical program. Programs offered at the Dr. James A. Forrest Career & Technology Center include:

  • Academy of Health Professions (Registered Nurse License required)

  • Carpentry
  • Curriculum for Agricultural Science Education (CASE)
  • ComputerAided Drafting (Certified Solidworks Associate & Autodesk Certified User credential preferred)

  • Dental Assisting (Dental Assistant License required)
  • Diesel Technology
  • Electrical Wiring
  • Engineering
  • Graphic Communications
  • Hospitality & Tourism
  • Individualized Products and Services Technology (IPS) (Special Education MSDE certification required)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Instructs students in developing knowledge and skills in accordance with the course of study adopted by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE);
  • Develops and maintains a competencybased course;
  • Develops clear and concise instructional lesson plans and organizes class time to provide a balanced program of preparation and classroom/lab instructional time;
  • Supervises student activity in the classroom in labs and on schoolsponsored trips;
  • Gives feedback and guided instruction to students to build skill sets and motivation;
  • Provides individual and small group instruction and adapts the curriculum to the needs of students with varying abilities;
  • Identifies student needs and collaborates with other professional staff members in helping students solve health attitude and learning problems;
  • Uses a variety of instructional techniques/strategies appropriate for the ages and instructional levels of students;
  • Evaluates student performance and growth in knowledge and prepares regular progress reports;
  • Maintains accurate records for each student;
  • Conferences with parents/guardians regarding behavior and performance of their individual child;
  • Directs and evaluates student learning experiences observations field trips labs SkillsUSA competitions etc.;
  • Provides guidance to students to promote education development and welfare;
  • Provides care and protection of school property; and
  • Maintains instructional materials and equipment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participate in cocurricular activities;
  • Maintain accurate student records;
  • Assist students with learning activities;
  • Participate in professional development opportunities;
  • Cooperate with students and staff;
  • Maintain open lines of communication with students staff parents/guardians community members and the advisory committee;
  • Maintain current lesson plans;
  • Must be able to master and demonstrate necessary knowledge and skills to meet the changing needs of the industry;
  • Must develop and/or maintain a Professional Advisory Committee (PAC) which will assist in charting a curriculum that produces marketable entrylevel students;
  • Coordinate the operation and maintenance of equipment vital to the instructional program;
  • Anticipate the needs of this course in order to maintain the daytoday operation with a budget;
  • Review software and textbooks and other teaching materials in order to make informed decisions for classes;
  • Develop pretests semester tests and posttests and other teaching markers to incorporate into Student Learning Objectives (SLO);
  • Incorporate industrystandard certification into courses and in conjunction with SkillsUSA certification;
  • Keep the Teacher Access Center (TAC) up to date to facilitate student and parent access on the status of their grades; and
  • Additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Some programs may require the instructor to hold certification or licensure as identified in the position description above.
  • All programs require a minimum ofthree 3)years of fulltime experience in the career area to be taught.
  • Willingness to obtain and maintain current certification for Professional and Technical Education through MSDE (See For Certification below).
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in the career area to be taught.

For Certification:

Option I:

  • Hold a Bachelors or higher degree in a stateapproved career and technical program from an accredited college or university.

Option II:

  • Hold a Bachelors or higher degree in the career area to be taught from an accredited college or university; and
  • Meet the professional education coursework required by MSDE.

Option III

  • Hold an Associates degree in the career area to be taught from an accredited college or university; and
  • Present a minimum of 2 years of fulltime teaching experience in the career area to be taught or 2 years of fulltime occupational experience in the career area to be taught both within the last 10 years and
  • Meet the professional education coursework required by MSDE.

Option IV

  • High school diploma or GED; and
  • Present a minimum of 3 years of fulltime teaching experience in the career area to be taught or 3 years of fulltime occupational experience in the career area to be taught both within the last 10 years and
  • Meet the professional education coursework required by MSDE.

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:

Fulltime tenmonth position.

Salary Grade Range:

The salary for this EXEMPT position will be based on EASMC salary schedule for tenmonth employees.

Bargaining Unit: EASMC
