Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The SSHE Specialist will be based in Gurnee Illinois for our Performance Materials Business. The position will support the Site SSHE Manager in a broad range of activities as it relates to Safety Health and Environment. This individual will be expected to facilitate ongoing support for our chemical manufacturing operations. Promote and contribute to the sites culture where Safety Health and Environment are engrained as our core value with all employees. Assist in various SSHE programs their implementation and daily followup plus train other employees in key SSHE areas as necessary. Ensures ongoing excellence in SSHE compliance and expected daily work practices at our chemical production facility.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Hazardous Waste Management & Wastewater Management

  • EPA SPCC NPDES SWPPP

  • New Employee Orientation Contractor Safety Training

  • Gas Detection Maintenance Safety/Environmental Inspections General Safety Auditing

  • Industrial Hygiene Monitoring/Environmental Support

  • Participates in the Job Safety Analysis process and helps ensure completion of high quality and documented JSAs.

  • Frequently conducts safework system and work condition audits assist in incident investigations.

  • Inspects and maintains safety related and emergency response equipment to ensure accessibility and availability of safe reliable equipment.

  • Participates in PreStartUp Safety Reviews (PSSRs).

  • Acts as a safety resource to the various customers of the SSHE Department by providing effective solutions and removing obstacles to a safe work environment.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

Desired Background

  • 4 or more Years SHE experience preferred in the chemical industry or a related field.

  • Bachelor of Science degree or pursuing in safety/environmental compliance.

  • Primary knowledge of OSHA regulations as well as knowledge of EPA SWPPP SPCC RCRA and other federal state and local regulations required.

Knowledge Skills & Talents

More specifically we would seek the following attributes and competencies for the position:

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office products (Word Excel Outlook PowerPoint)

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal skills are needed.

  • Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours if needed.

  • Professional judgment consistency and attention to detail are critical to success.

  • Requires facilitation skills necessary to educate and train employees in general health and safety principles and techniques.

  • Must be able to work well with others with in all levels of the organization.

  • The right candidate will be able to work both independently and as part of a team in a leadership role and be a selfstarter/quick learner.

Pay and Benefits

The estimated base pay range for this position is: $90000 $120000 annually. Actual pay will be determined based on education certifications experience qualifications skills and geographic location. This position is eligible to participate in a shortterm incentive program.
